Hello Cardschat!

I have been playing poker since I was a boy. I am now 23 and have been playing online poker on and off for the past year. I started with SNG grinding because I loved tournaments and seemed good at them. Went on a big downswing and lost my $20 BR and Carbon wouldn't let me redeposit for some reason.

I started playing again a few weeks ago on Bovado following the advice on CC beginner forums. Switched to Cash and have done well at times but also have down swings. Deposited $10 and now at $7. I just can't seem to get the hang of it I guess. I follow hand charts and read all about post flop play so I am surprised I can't even seem to beat the 2c/5c FR and 6max tables.

Please give me advice, I have 1 more year till I am done with a bachelors and then I would like to try poker more seriously. My goal would be to make a few hundred a week if that's possible but right now I just want to build a bankroll.

Please lead me in the right direction!

Forget about making a few hundred a week. Your immediate goal should simply be to become at least a BE player at the entry level where you're playing. The straightforward way to do so is to (learn to) play solid TAG poker.

To make 100 $ a week is not something you just do.

To learn poker you have to study poker and get a lot of practice.

I play A LOT of freerolls to improve my game.

I READ A LOT here at Cardschat to get knowledge.

I know I am not a superstar on pokertables but I know that hard work can get me to a higher level.

I don't think that reading will help improve your poker skills. Better get your own experience at tables. Nothing is better than that.

reading over peoples hands and tips definitely helps, you honestly just have to keep playing, every player probably busted there roll at least a few times before they learnt how to become a consistent winner. You've just gotta keep playing and don't think to much about the losses at this point, just play within your limits and enjoy getting better.

What's your basis for saying you play TAG well? If you really do, there's a pretty decent chance you wouldn't have the kind of results you do.

Probably you haven't had the best decisions in some occasions
