I've been playing live cash and tournament games for years now and I think it's time to start diversifying, i.e. playing online. I've heard about a lot of people doing it and obviously it is a huge market (and especially was a decade ago).

I've never played online because I've been hesitant to use a credit card online and also with reservations that the site could get shut down and I'm out of my money. As irrational or rational these fears may be (it doesn't really matter), I'm wanting to expand my game into the online tables.

Obviously online v. live are completely different games and mastering the art of online poker would take years. So....where do I start? What should I read? What should I look out for? Etc.?

I appreciate in advance all of your comments and suggestions.

Hey there!
A quick tidbit:
The field is generally tougher online than live so starting small (the micros) is best IMO to get adjusted and see some of the differences. Also, take advantage of any bonuses available, most sites have first time depositor bonuses and sometimes freerolls. That said, playing in the CC freerolls when you qualify is a fun way to get some experience and maybe not even have to deposit. Good luck!

Try playing on the micro limit first as it good for your BRM.Then after that you can to the higher stake if you are feeling comfortable.Dont rush, take it slowly and step by step.Cash games and SNGs are good for starters.

In my opinion you should start to see some video poker online to see how it Joca online. Playing poker online is very different from the live you will have many bad bets. Originally from Solit Free bankrool to not deviate, I suggest you start with small stakes both tournaments and cash SNG first to get familiar with poker software, or if you do not want to risk any money at first you play and freerolls. Try to do a set schedule daily poker game ... I wish you luck at the tables and I hope my advice will help. and another thing: Welcome to Cardschat :)

Dummies are more dangerous than normal players. That's thing you should know about online.

Action is faster and all the information is available live on the screen online.
Those information parameters provided on the screen gives a better insight into the game itself overall.
Hence decision-making is that much more complicated.
There are software tools out there that can help you overcome the above hurdle.

First, you can choose a online-cardroom to play, then it is almost the same as live.
