So I'm still on my summer break and was running out of things to do so I decided to start playing online poker. A little background, I do play a lot of poker and watch a lot of poker, but I just never really gave playing online poker a thought until now. Don't want to say I'm pro and all, but I do feel I understand the game more than the average player.

Anyways, two days ago I decided to start playing online on Bovada and started with basically $7-$8 (deposited the min deposit (it was 20 I think) and saw that they had blackjack and basically lost like 10 hands in a row -_-) On the first day started playing .2/.5, two tables at a time with around 4$ buy-in each table. Played for around 1 - 1.5 hrs, ended the night with around $14. Second day, started playing .5/.10, two tables with around $7 buy-in each tables and ended with around $31. Played around 2 hours. Today I played for like 30 min, two tables .5/.10, am at $42 (got real lucky one hand) right now.

I was just wondering when do you guys think I should start moving up to like .10/.25 etc., things I should know as I move up. I would like to keep playing only 2 tables, maybe 3. I'm not really looking to make a lot of money, just something honestly more for fun. But obviously some money would be nice.

Thanks!

Hello! If your just looking to have fun then you can move up whenever you want. If your looking to get serious then you should look into Bank Roll Management (BRM). There are plenty of threads on it here in this forum and in the golden archive ( https://www.cardschat.com/f49/ ).

You're very likley to go bust if you carry on playing the way you are, if that doesn't matter then you can carry on trying and gamble your way up the stakes.

But if you dont want to deposit again then you need to read about and apply BRM. Most people on here wouldn't consider playing .10/.25 with anything less than $500.

Good luck

Yea I've been reading a lot on BRM, never realized you needed that many times your buy-in.

But I can't seem to find a lot regarding BRM for tourneys / sit+gos. I've been playing the Bovada 5$ and 7$ Triple Up a lot. What should my bank roll be around for these?I've been cashing in around 3/4 of them.

I never could make much head way in sit n go type games. Most of my best money came from .50/1 games all limit. When you play to cheap you play to many people that call with anything. It is only slightly better than free poker lol.

BRM is key though. Last time I played online I put in $50 and never made another deposit but paid for several nice items around the house and finally a 7 day vacation in the Bahamas on a private island.

Learn to play smart and manage your BR. Don't get all bent and go on tilt. If you aren't hitting don't feel like you need to stay. Leave and come back later. If you lose 1/2 of what you take to the table LEAVE. Do not try to win it all back right away and you will do well.

Good luck moving up, if your online poker is for a bit of fun then hey why not move up, donate your bankroll to the regs at those stakes and enjoy it, but like OP said if your aiming to make money off of the online felt then stick to 25BIs or more

Thanks for the advice guys.

Yea, I noticed when playing micro limits on Bovada the majority of players call pre-flop with nothing, hit middle pair or draw on the flop and just continue betting/calling no matter what. I don't know if they're just beginners or they just don't care about the money. Pretty hard to up my bankroll and at the same time it's pretty boring since it just ends up as whoever gets lucky and ends up with the best hand.

I'm thinking about depositing more money and playing higher blinds, but I don't know if the players are the same or not. Anyone played the higher blinds on Bovada and know how the players are like?

I've thought about moving to other sites, but being an American player there's not a lot of choices. Betonline is #2 recommended on Cardschat, but after researching a bit, it seems like it gets a lot of negative reviews from users (scams, long waiting period for payouts, accounts frozen for reason, etc.), so I'm skeptical. Any other good sites for American players?

Thanks.
