Hi there, I'm a young adult new to online gambling in general and I'm looking to create something for my parents as well that helps manage low deposit thresholds while keeping poker fun! Can you look over this and make any suggestions that might improve this idea. Thanks.

IDEA:

1. Play to our budget on a fortnightly deposit, no other deposits allowed.
2. Play micro games and pretend each 1 cent = 1 dollar. Learn to respect the cent bet from the start!
3. At the end of every 2 months, empty the account into larger pot rooms, making it feel like a grand final for us. It might only be 30-40 dollars to play with, but that's a big jump from the 1/2 cent rooms, and should add that little bit of extra excitement!

Problem. I haven't really decided what would be a good rule-set for withdrawals if we are lucky/good enough to make a decent win at the end of every 2 months. What would you do if money wasn't an easily attainable resource? Honestly, the min deposit once per fortnight is actually less than we spend on social poker, so that's not hard to do for us at all, but in order to make sure that this stays in line with budgets, I'm looking for a god guide or rule set to help be our "manager". It's easy to make bad decisions in the spur of the moment, so I like the idea of having a rule set to manage the money aspect, it leaves more head space for playing and loving the game, with out later regrets.

Thanks for reading, let me know if you know about awesome ways to improve this general simple guide line for my family.

Thanks so much!

Envisage.

This seems reasonable. You have an amount you know you can comfortably afford to gamble with and set a limit based on that amount.

2. Play micro games and pretend each 1 cent = 1 dollar. Learn to respect the cent bet from the start!
This doesn't make sense to me. If you are playing No-Limit or Pot-Limit poker, it would be better to get used to the idea of thinking of things in terms of big-blinds, or even better as multiples of the size of the pot. You might make a bet that is 2/3rds the size of the pot while having effective stacks that are 8 times the size of the pot. This way of thinking about bet sizing will continue to serve you well as your game size scales up. If you're playing limit, you should probably think of things in terms of "bets" (which is the size of the big bet).

I just don't think there's a lot of benefit from pretending that 15c is $15. There is a lot of benefit to knowing you raised 3xbb, got called in two spots, and everyone has a stack that is about 10 times the size of the pot on the flop.

3. At the end of every 2 months, empty the account into larger pot rooms, making it feel like a grand final for us. It might only be 30-40 dollars to play with, but that's a big jump from the 1/2 cent rooms, and should add that little bit of extra excitement!
This is spew. Don't do this. What you could do is set a bonus level. Maybe use all the money over XX amount as a sit and go buy-in. Say, everything over $20 is for a sit and go. If you make $31, you have enough for a $10+$1 sit and go. Even better, I like the idea of setting a small amount (fixed monthly) to do "step sit and gos." I make the steps up myself. So, maybe buy-in with a $2.20 tournament and play it up (using winnings to buy into the largest sit and go you can) until you cash at a predetermined level (say cashing in a $50+$5). You'll probably lose it all, but that will only be $2.20 in the end.

Everything else, roll it over. You want to build up a balance, so you can build a larger bankroll and play in bigger games.

Don't withdraw unless you leave enough to keep building things up. Really, you shouldn't consider at first. I cash out too much, and it kept me down in the micros for too long. Actually, my step-brother kept me in the micros on Absolute Poker (anyone remember that crap-hole) the entire time I played on there. I would win a couple hundred, he would give me cash and I would transfer him that couple hundred. He would lose it. I'd win a couple hundred more, he'd give me cash and I would transfer it over to him. He would lose it. And repeat. I rarely got up past $25nl before "cashing out" through a transfer to him that put me back at $10nl or lower.

I think you have a good basis here. Only deposit what you can afford to lose. That or try building it through freerolls. I'm trying to do that on ACR right now, and it's reminded me of how horrible and slow it can be. A deposit would make things go a lot faster.

Watch out for withdraw fees. You'll want to keep all your profits.

This is just my opinion, and I'm not trying to be rude, but envisage you are way ahead of yourself. In 2 months how much do you want to win? I came through that level and on up to 10nl. It is not easy. Even at 1/2 cent, the game is tough, because there are some really good players there. But yes ABC poker is the best starting point
