New To The Game & Desire to succeed!!
Hi I am very new to the poker world and I'd like to say hi to everyone.
First off, I am a massive fan of poker. I watch Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker all the time on Youtube! I recently started playing online poker but so far have only managed to lose $250. I always start off strong, winning pots, started gaining the ability to read people quite well, however I always seem to lose it towards the end.
The loss of $250 doesn't bother me, what bothers me is despite being up in the first half of sessions, I always seem to lose it towards the end.
I am willing to invest the time and money into playing poker seriously (not professionally, one step at a time) and would love to gain any tips of people on how to start my poker career and win both online and casinos
My Poker Level So Far (Aside from losing $250)
I lost the $250 dollars mainly going all in on an Ace High Flush but was beaten with a full house. This was a mistake that could have been easily avoided and I simply put it down to me not paying attention to the board and how he bet. I was playing on $.25-$.50 (online) and really associate my big wins due to me having the nuts and my opponents betting into me with a strong hand but weaker than mine e.g. I would have a nut flush whilst he had trips. I foolishly moved up to $1-$2 stakes (online) hoping that this would happen and win big, however was beaten at my own game when the guy flopped a boat whilst I had the nut flush draw....I mistake easily avoided if I analysed the board and studied how he bet out into me (looking at the replay of the hand, it was somewhat obvious).
But I understand the basic concepts. Understand how to play pre-flop well (I play quite a lose range playing from JT off suit UTG to A2 off suit on the button) and quite aggressively. I have gained this play via the Harrington of Cash Game books.
I understand the concepts of odds
, pot odds
, expected value
What I need help on is mainly, reading people's cards and behaviors, turn play and river play. Are there any books you would recommend for people at my level? I have all the Harrington books (Tournament, Cash Games and Online), Hellmuth's Play Poker like the Pros book and Joe Navarro's Read 'em and reap. I have only read the first part of Harrington's Cash Games and read all of Joe Navarro's books.
My questions to start with is are these books any good, I would like to know before I start reading them. Also are there any additional books people would recommend to me.
I look forward to learning as much as I can about this game and looking forward to reading everything everyone has to offer! I am very passionate about this game and would love to be someday a great player and win big!
