So I just deposited 50 dollars onto FullTilt for the first time. Ive been playing a combo of .05/.1 NL and the 1.25 SnGs. Is there any good software out there that is free because I know that poker tracker costs. Also, Im curious as to how it works...Does it go automatically or do you have to enter the info. Sorry for the dumb questions. If there is any other info that you think I should know, please fill me. Thanks a lot.

Download and take advantage of the 60 day free trail of PT. With such a small bankroll I'd stick to SnGs, although I'd recommend the $2 + .25 to help ease the cost of the rake.

I personally started with a $50 deposit and I've never had to redeposit. Just stay patient and work within good BR management guidelines and you'll be fine. Stick around here for a while and you'll conquer the world*.

ooops forgot to mention. Search Google for "rakeback" and see if your poker site offers rakeback (money back for the money they take from each pot). Overtime it adds up.

Rakeback sites a total waste of time, imho. If you have an account at a gaming site you're not eligible for their rakebacks.

As Hillbilly said, you can download a free trial version of Poket Tracker (PT) or Hold'em Manager (HEM) and use it fas long as you can. You'll see it's well worth the while to purchase if your realy into playing some serious poker.

I also agree with his advice on games/stakes. Keep it well within good bankroll managment practices! (see articles under stragegy articles tab)

Listen to the advice given by the lads above me they have given you some very good information, Bankroll managment is one of, if not the most important things you need to learn to become a winning poker player.

To answer the data entry question, both the major trackers, Poker Tracker and Holdem Manager catch the game as you sit and play. The info is automatically entered into a data base, and pre-programmed bits of that data are used to provide you with nearly up to the second info. So, little input on your part is necessary until you want to analyze that data.

There may be other programs that catch the data on the fly, I have no experience as to them.

Thanks for the advice guys. I guess I will start with downloading the 60 day trial. And also, I didnt realize that the .5/.1 cash games were out of my bankroll. I made a stupid assumption that since they were the lowest stakes offered, I could afford it. I think that I will stick with the SNG's for a while.

Thats what has been working for me so far anyways. I win money in the SNG's then lose it on the cash games. lol. THanks again.

Our pleasure, that's what we're here for.

Some people do great in SnG's while others do better in rings games, main thing is you've found a niche that work for you! Soon enough you'll be crushing ring games...

Get Holdem manager instead of Poker tracker 3, its streets ahead. You can use a 15 day free trial. then its $55 (up to 0.25/0.50 and $22 tournies) or 80 for Full version, you can upgrade at a later date for $25.

Rakeback sites a total waste of time, imho. If you have an account at a gaming site you're not eligible for their rakebacks.

AB - I agree that if you have already signed up to a poker site then your probably too late to get a rakeback deal. Although I believe FT have/or are in the process of changing that.

As for rakeback - not having it is seriously -EV decision. I admit it probably has only a small affect at micro stakes, but seriously, the more hands you play, then the higher up the stakes you get earning a $1000/month just in rakeback alone is not that difficult. Playing around 20k hands a month at 100nl on Stars (assuming your Supernova) is worth around $1200. Thats a similar rate to the RB at FT. Some sites offer considerably more.

You will likely get a variety of replies to this. Most will actually be one persons favorite site rather than a decent evaluation of the facts. There is no definitive evaluation of the facts that we have seen, or at least I have seen, but this is something that I would take interest in.

The one difference that I will note, is that bodog has beginner sng's and tourneys that pay half the field, as compared to the normal payouts. They are labeled as beginner tourneys in the bodog lobby. If you can stand bodog, (normally I can't) then as a beginner these are noteworthy.

In general though, you will find most site have the same players and talents across the board.

For software, Hold'em Manager or Poker Tracker, both have free trials for you to test it out and see which one you like. Both programs auto update oce you conigure them. Check out a few articles on bakroll management, you are playing above your roll for sure. Google Chris Ferguson and bankroll management, should be all you need.

Other things to look for in a site for beginners...is the payout structure....As stated Bodog offeres the beginner tourneys...these are 10 person SnGs and they pay out top 5.

Full tilt is a good site, but for their MTTs, they payout structure is kinda lame....pokerstars on the other hand has a pretty decent payout structure.

Good luck..and pay attn. to Bankroll management...I don't...but, I deposit more than I should..LOL

My experience is that when you want to higher your $50 bankroll you can best begin with sit and go's. In really short time you can double up your bankroll by playing very tight. Only play a few hands and try to double your stack with these hands. When you've douled twice the beginstack, you'll be almost in the money...

poker tracker has a free trial which will help you and they have a good help section/forums that will explain to you what to do. It's a very valuable way to track your play and results.

You can also get Poker Tracker and Hold'em Manager as well as several other poker tracking programs as free gifts by signing up to poker rooms.

For example, Titan gives PT free with a $25 deposit (easy rake requirements), you can get 3 months free with Poker-Edge from Bodog, Lucky Ace, Mansion, etc.

Use their free trials first to see which one you like, then find a deal on it.

so r u guy's talking about poker caluclator's...???
No, poker trackers which track play and stats at the table; not compute odds. Look it up, it is important software.
To OP you got great advice from everyone, so now take it easy and take your time to figure out the angles re software and rakeback... and keep yr BR growing in small bits (ferguson again again).
After all this advice, if you post in a couple of days saying you lost yr 50, you are fired.

Old post but i figured I would answer it anyway.

If you are a beginner and want to play Sit'n'Gos I would suggest Full Tilt. They have a bunch of beatable games at the $1 and $2 dollar limit. The rake is high but where is it not...

However, if you just deposited and are looking to build your bankroll through cash/ring games you definitely need to deposit to Pokerstars. They offer .01/.02c blinds as well as .02/.05c

This is great b/c Full Tilt's lowest stakes are .05/.1 and unless you are depositing about $250 or so is out of the bankroll. Not to mention the micro stakes at Pokerstars are beatable with some simple TAG play.

Hope this helps.:)
