Has anyone read this (these) book(s)? As a member of the Poker Players Alliance I get a weekly strategy email from Negreanu that could easily be a brief chapter or snippet from his book...does anyone else receive these messages? Each one comes with an oh-so-convenient link to buy the book making me think I probably don't need to..I'm wondering if it's still worth it to pick up a copy. Thanks gang

DN's style is very difficult to master...what are some of the concepts he advocates?

I get the emails too, and I will still buy his books. I have Power Holdem and Holdem Wisdom (haven't read this one yet), and I'm sure I'll get the other one eventually. I always like having books on hand to review. I also take the tuesday tips and copy and paste them into the notepad so I can keep them on my computer without filling up my email box.

Yeah, I get them, too. Some of the info is great and then he throws in some of the "smallball" stuff, which seems to run very contrary to what I practice and my head starts to hurt (RAISE with a 10-7o?!?!?!?!). I've played with the idea of signing up for the VT thing, as the tests and sample lessons were quite interesting, but have made a resolution not to invest in any schools or "clubs" until my bankroll warrants the expenditure (20% of bankroll) which, trust me, is gonna take a while playing freerolls and micro-stakes SNGs and cash games online.

Although I will say '09 has been good to me so far with a 10% growth in my bankroll over the last two days. I'm not gonna put that into dollars, because it sounds WAY more impressive as a percentage of bankroll. :D

Y'all have a good day down there in the People's Republic.

I feel your (head) pain...I love the ones where his advice stems from something I know that I'm not good enough to have pulled off in the first place...I don't find myself raising with 10-7 too often. To your point, I was reading one of his email columns about tells and he starts off describing his strategy with:

"Here’s an example of how picking up on this particular tell can help you avoid being trapped.
You make a pre-flop raise with 8c-10c. The player in the big blind calls."

It just made me giggle a little after reading your post.
Congratulations on your bankroll growth! 10% is good no matter the cash value!

As far as joining a training site, I'm in the same boat. I plan on doing this sometime but my bankroll certainly doesn't allow for that at this point, particularly when we can't play online in the PRofW. The knowledge I would gain would end up costing me as I'm only playing once a week with terrible players who you can't apply logic to.

Cheers!
