Hi i have recently started playing poker at the beginning of August.
I am a very serious player and take everything to the utmost respect in my attempts on learning everything there is to learn about poker. Alot of it is very Advanced So i am searching for the right steps to become a Good Player. I have allready done alot of studying about the basics and have some understanding about outs, odds, and have a good grasp on the game. I had recently acquired Poker Office through an offer which has led me to wanting to up my game. Ive owned it for about a month now and find that i have alot of useless info (only because i am not understanding how to properly apply the program to my game.). I Know my way around the program, and have some stats allready tracked, but really need some help applying this.
I am in search of some serious players who have dedicated alot of time to poker who can train me.(Take me under their wings) and dont mind taking some of there time by doing so. i know that there is alot to learn and alot of in game experience is needed to become a great player. I Have more then enough time to dedicate myself to becoming someone's project, or even having a few players that have ideas or some recommendations or even make a step by step course to do or learn or whatever kind of training ideas u can make come my way. ( Training videos, web cam sessions, chat sessions, Posts here)
So please, i can really use the help to learning how to use my software properly, and would love to have the time dedicated to helping me learn whatever i need to become not only an average avid player, but a competitor that will be making a mark on the tables. So I Thank you now for your time in reading this and i would be greatly appreciative for any one who wouldn't mind lending a hand.

Greatly Appreciated: Hanagis

Well finding someone that can put that much time into helping you will be difficult buy posting hands and asking for help is a good start you can also search the forums for books people suggest you read which were written by poker players but as you stated above in game experience is the best way to develop your game once you get your post count up and all that stuff playing in our freerolls will be very beneficial as we have some great players

good luck hopefully someone will take you under there wings if not consider this entire forum as a friend post questions, hands or any other thing you might like to know and I'm sure someone experienced will put in their 2 cents worth

Sounds like you are looking for a poker coach - be prepared to pay for that.

If you can not afford to pay a coach - then take some of the advice above. It is going to take a lot of work on your part to accomplish your goals - but be prepared to use training sites and the forums here. People won't see you out - you will have to take steps like getting involved in the strategy discussions. posting hand histories etc.

Good luck!

Thanks for your suggestions. i am a new member here and have chosen to use this forum as my main sorce of a poker community.ive done alot of research on the web for an active community and found that this one has alot of members that are always there for others when needing help. i have done alot of reading b4 throughout websites but found that theres alot of situations that i dont understand so i am just hoping that i can get a better understanding by mayb meeting some players that would like to share with me their poker insight. I have purchased a few poker books and found them really usefull but at the same time i am left stuck because i am new and dont fully understand the examples. ( Winning Poker For The Serious Player, Daniel Negranu's Hold'em Wisdom for all Players, Doyle Brunson's online poker, Phil Gordan's Little Gold Book on Advanced Lessons for Mastering Poker (i havent started to read that at all tho because its very complex and i think it will just make things more difficult at the moment. (Gift from a friend).
I dont have the cash to be paying some1 for the training so i am hoping to find some kind hearted players among the community who wouldnt mind spending a little bit of there time with helping me aquire some needed skill. and i totally agree with me being a more active member throughout the forums and discussions will help me greatly and will also show others that i am serious about this and not just going to be a waste of time to those that have decided to make an effort with helping me throughout this. So again i want to thank yous for reading this thread and pls come back with any insight you might have that you can offer that can improve my game, whether it be some links u think i should check out, articles, hands that are posted, books, or videos to watch. I am looking forward to hearing back from all of you and i hope that i can make some new friends throughout this community.

Oh and i am currently studying the course that is at pokerstars poker school for beginners and am almost done that so i will be taking the begginers test soon. wish me luck : ). I am still far off from understanding alot of the concepts but i wont give up untill i have successfully completed the program. I have been really trying to get a grasp on the tracking software but find that i just keep on getting more and more stuck from not knowing what proper ranges i should be looking for with each specific stat. And which ones to set up and y. so in the meantime i am going to continue with my studys, research, and practice, because if i dont try to improve then whos going to do it for me???
Thanks for your time.

Hey Hanagis,

I just got a HUD a bit ago and Im going to start a new thread (as soon as I get a large enough sample of hands) in which Im going to try to analyze all of my stats to find leaks and understand each stat better. This is def an area of the game that im just getting a hold of so maybe that will be a start for you?

As for like actual playing strategy, I agree with everyone else in that you should probably just play for a while to get a better feel for the game but hey Im just a beginner as well!

You can find some info on stat ranges. I can't think of any one specific article or thread , but i'm sure some of the guys on here can help you out. I personally use Leakbuster, it looks at your stats, and finds your biggest leaks, and how they affect your winrate. It has a lot of written and video training content, and Steps for Position, 3- betting, etc. and like 50 + advanced filters you can run. I recommend checking it out at some point, although i think it only works with either Poker Tracker or HM.

It might take a little effort, but there are some guys out there that maybe would like to try coaching, and would be willing to help on skype, etc. Or maybe you can find a study group type situation.

Good luck!

After doing a lil searching around on this site, a few days ago i came across this guide which has alot of info on tracking software. (Hold-Em Manager) Special 1K post: Hold'em Manager Stat Guide, also i went and checked out Leak Buster But your right its not compatable with Poker Office :(, while i was seeing what it was all about i was getting so excited just to be let down :(. So i guess in the meantime i am still just gona keep practicing, searching and looking forward to all posts and msgs regarding my inquires.

Thanks for your time :)

I've never tried Poker Office. Did you ever try the free trials for HM2 or PT4? I mean Poker Office may be fine, but the other two are a little more common i guess. and some people are pretty handy with them, and may be able to recommend certain filters, etc for your own leakfinding. And if you did the trials, you could at least try the trial for Leakbuster.

You have to buy them??? really i never woulda imagined that. I guess evrything has a price these days.Well i wonder if starting a thread for HHs for free download on here would help alot of ppl. If there were restrictions for it tho like being an active member and stuff like that could be really usefull for others, i know that it would be extreamly usefull for me :). Just dont know how many ppl would actually wanna help others with that seeing now i know that you can be selling it. y cant we all just progress together and help the less fortunate. Ne ways thanks for the tips man n take care.
