It's not surprising that you'd say that, lol. I mean, you have a very aggressive (read: maniac) style yourself. And provided the OP is willing to adopt or indeed already goes with such a style, then yes confronting such players is a valid tactic.
Also, I was going to take issue with you bringing up the long run, but the OP never said whether the hand in question was in a tournament or a cash game. If this was a cash game (very plausible given the BB number) then yeah, call him all day every day. That's the biggest difference to me between tournaments and cash games--in cash games the long run really matters, in tournaments each tournament is its own short run and it's impossible to get to the long run.
