So heres my situation. Im tdy here in vegas and i have been sticking to the 1/2 no limit games around the strip. My swings are horrible...i keep two buyins ($300) on me and try to stay out for only 8 hours at a time. One night i can be up off of one buy in about 900$ then the next night im down to my last buyin and bart walking out of a seasion with it..after every session i send my profits back to the old lady minus the 2 buyins. I play tight ABC poker nothing fancy. Im still a amature and i can only really play a small range of hands...any advice on how to stay in the black. I plan on returning home and start to play some home games(south carolina) casinos are not around me..i have been shying away from home games because i am still learning.

If you're playing a tight ABC game then you're playing position and folding to raises when you're out of position right? Play the player, play position and be patient. When you're up you can fool around a bit, but when you're down ROCK UP! Hold your emotions in check, patience, patience, patience and position.

Well i would recommend playing online cash games same stakes, no forget that, smaller stakes, one thing applies for all cash games, u have to be aggressive, sorry, but abc poker will not cut it, plus online ull get to play lots of hands and get that very needed experience under your belt, coz u need it, also if u have a friend who has a lot of experience playing live poker, ask him/her to teach u how to pick up on tells, it will be easy with beginners to spot a tell then with experienced players, but from what i have seen on the tables everyone has a tell, a twitch, micro expression, something that they can not control, so u have to spot it first and then pay to see what it means, after that, u take that guy/girl to the cleaners :D

Good on ya for studying tells, that's what I mean by "playing the player" as a beginner you're going to be exposed to all kinds of players. Not all tells are "Is the guy bluffing or not", it's in how they bet, how they talk, are they susceptible to bad beats and steam off, who's playing the crazy game, wild players are hard to read but they can be very profitable and damaging too if you read them wrong. Playing solid in POSITION and learning what range of hands will work against a particular opponent cannot be stressed enough. My tells are easy at least when I start but when I get ahead and I'm playing on YOUR money I'll change up often so I can confuse my tells. I used to be intimidated by wild players but I've now learned to love them and that's one of the hardest lessons I've needed to learn.

Yes by all means learn to read tells... ALSO learn to confuse your own.

I stress patience, position, position and position and more patience. Especially on loose tables rock up and play position, play only the best hands and be aggressive. I've blamed my losing and my impatience on the negative swing more times than I care to admit. When they're getting lucky and drawing out you have to rock up even more and play position even MORE patiently, fold if you think you don't have it. Card dead is card dead if you're not up you need to be so conservative the RNC will ask you to run for president. Patience, patience, patience.
