Hi guys I am new at poker and I have a few questions regarding how much to bet

situation: your in a full table or table consist of 6-9 people including yourself its a $2/$4 game

Questions:
1. how much should you bet pre-flop if you have premium hands
2. on-post flop how much should you bet if you have good hands
3. on post flop how much should you bet if you have marginal hands
4. on-post flop you landed nuts how much should you bet
5. on-post flop if bluffing how much should you bet

I am very new to poker and having problems with regards to betting I am a tight player and either I scare people away when betting big or end up getting small pots

I try not to vary my bets based on what I have; rather, I'll bet based on the board and opponents.

For example, if I'm in opening the betting in late position, my bet with AA will be the same as with 87s.

If I have a hand post-flop, I want to protect against draws, so bet according to the board. Eg: 2 diamonds and T9 on the flop, I am betting more than I would on a board with fewer drawing opportunities.

I am betting the same way if I am bluffing or semi-bluffing. I might want a total bluff to look like a semi-bluff, so will bet small on a drawy board, so if a scare card hits, I can represent that I made my monster hand.

This all can go out the window based on opponents -- if you can narrow their range of action, you might change the way you bet against them. This comes into play on those river bets -- a small (1/3 pot) bet may induce a weak call, but it also makes it look like you WANT them to call, so may get a fold. A larger bet (more than the pot) might make you look desperate to induce a fold, but if you've done that already and shown a big hand, you may get some calls on those, too.

Sorry I didn't answer the questions specifically, but I hope this at least gives you something to think about, as ultimately these decisions are up to you!

Good luck and enjoy your games!

I know you are not going to like this answer but it really depends on the game. I split my live play between a home game deep stacked (500bb) 2/4 or 5/10 and casino 2/4 spread limit with max $100 bet/raise and max 100bb. (state law). The spread limit plays like a nl 100bb game. I can tell you these games change based on night and who is at the table.

Poker is not a bet x and get reaction C and bet y and get reaction D. If you find your bets are making everyone fold you are either playing to tight (not enough hands) or betting to much and only hands that can beat you will calls or raise.

You should always bet with a purpose. What are you trying to do when you bet preflop. Isolate, create a large multiway pot, steal, etc. It all depends on what you want to accomplish. Same goes for flop, turn, and river.

If you are having a hard time and/or are new to poker i think it is best to make your bets consistent. Ether always raise the same amount when entering pot or raise base off position.

Give some example hands and ask question.
