I was hoping to get a little help with how do you as a serious poker player review your sessions overall. I have tried to read some blogs but nobody really goes in depth, they might just touch on it saying its need to improve your poker and fix leaks as need. Ok so here is what i started to do but i also feel like i can do more to improve my review sessions. After i am done playing poker for the day i review my session for about 30-45 minutes. I follow a guideline to see if i was a tight-aggressive for the day. If it was a winning day. How was my stealing pct for the day. How did i play position and was i aggressive in position and out of position enough. Where did i leak the most money from and what position it was from. Was it do to a single hand or was i too loose or too passive in the position. I have a composition book that i keep this all logged into by dates. And last but not least i look at my hands that i lost the most money in and replay them to make sure if i played them right and long and behold most of the time i played them wrong so i also write those down and note my thought process plus what i would have done to change the outcome if possible. So far it has been working and i have been finding small leaks but i truly feel like i can do more or that i am missing something else. Also just to let u know i use holdem manager mainly but also have poker tracker three running in the back as well. so i use both but lean towards holdem manager. please if u also review please help me to let me know if there is something u do that i dont do. Oh by the way i strictly play 6max nl cash games.
Thanks,
Aesop

During your session jot down hands you have questions about win or lose regardless of the amount of the pot. Maybe you weren't sure about raising, or betting the turn or folding the river. There are lots of hands where at some point you might not be sure what to do.

You also need to be reviewing your winning hands to see if you can be winning more and losing hands to see if you could have lost less, if your c-bets were appropriate for example, or if a check may have induced a bluff.

Posting question hands here in the Hand Analysis forums will also help.

Holdem Manager has the ability to mark certain hands immediately after the hand is finished (assuming you are using the HUD). That way you'll remember which hands you want to review after the session. I find this feature very helpful.

Nice post. I also think getting coaching is extremely important. I actually found that database analysis is one of the most cost effective ways to plug your leaks fast. Sites like Acepokercoach.com have a database analysis program that I think is extremely helpful. The leak finder software is a great tool as well. It's all a non-stop learning process!

Wow, I'd say you're off to a good start.

Just keep at it, and keep reading/participating in discussions. What happens there is you start to learn more strategy/approaches and slowly get more views on what to look at in terms of evaluating your sessions. I did what you're doing when I started and look back at the evaluations and questions now and think most of them are pretty simplistic.

While you want to review your sessions, "sessions is an arbitrary thing. Don't get hung up on a defined set of parameters. Tracking software can be an excellent way to track progress over time. Try not to look at results for given sessions, instead, just make sure you made the right choices regardless of the outcome. Easier said than done, but over time when yo ubecome less preoccupied with every sessions results your game will improve. I would just recommend you read some good books depending on what your focus is and keep going over your hand choices. I have a list of books on my blog. I hope that helped, good luck at the tables.
