Where do I start? I rarely multitable and when I do I am probably doing it all wrong. Is there a book or a thread or something I could look at to get the basics of multitabling?

There's no magical tip that makes it click all of a sudden and you can 16-table. Really you just have to practice. Start with one or two, and when you get comfortable add more.

Thanks man
Im really just curious about BRM, but probably just nervous and trying to take that first step.
I guess I'll just go back to basics..... Play lower stakes, ABC poker and really get to know PT3.

People have different rules about multi-tabling and BRM, basically you just have to pick whatever you're most comfortable with. Some people will four-table only if they have 40 buy-ins, i.e. they're only using 10% of their bankroll. Others want 80-100 BI's to do the same thing. I'd recommend being more conservative, because even if you are a good player, it is not uncommon for large downswings to occur.

It's true, too, that most players use a more simple strategy the more tables they are playing. I suppose that's sort of a useful tip.

BRM wise it doesn't matter much. BRM rules apply to how much of your roll you have on one table, not multiple tables. However, if you're not comfortable, then wait till you have a bigger roll to play more tables.

So its standard to play 4 tables with 10% of my BR on each table thus playing 40% of my roll?

don't worry about the amount of tables you are playing, 4 is enough for someone at the micro's imo, anymore and you just don't learn as much whilst playing, things like blind stealing and 3betting from the blinds need to be learnt on less tables as they are much more villain dependant, for example, your in the SB with A7o, folded to the CO who raises, BTN folds and its on you, playing 12+ tables this is an auto-fold, b/c you dont get tricky all that often whilst playing 12 tables, playing 4 tables however you notice that the guy in the CO is very positionally aware and has a much wider raising range in LP than anywhere else......... so he raises a lot of mediocre hands basically, you have an ace so you have a blocker to hands like AK/AQ/AJ that might raise there, his range for calling a 3bet is a LOT tighter than the range that calls a 3bet....... so 3bet!!

General recommendation is that you have 20bi's to support whatever your limit is at microstakes, higher at small stakes, so < 5% would be more standard per table.

Of course you have to start somewhere. If you're keen on starting at 10NL for instance you can often start playing with a BR smaller than recommended. Mostly because you're willing to reload some amount and thus putting larger %'s of your BR at risk affects your game less.

I'm currently doing the same type of thing. Didn't think I was getting the right "education" at 5NL due to buy-in difference (200bb at 5nl vs. 100bb everywhere else). So I jumped to 10NL with only like $75 in my BR, knowing I'm willing to load up additional money if I go broke. With all that, I've been able to play relatively carefree and not focus on how big a hit my BR could take.

BRM is primarily something you have to stick to when your BR is all you have or when it is very large/stakes you play at are very high.

NO

As a minimum you should have no more than 5% of your BR on an individual table.

As you progress you should be aiming to get that down to 1%

Thanks everyone
I follow the 5% BRM rule pretty strictly and want to get a roll large enough for the 1% rule to be effective.
Moshmans book arrived today, waiting for schmidts......

Back to multitabling, today I thought up a little goal. Try 4 tabling for 6 hours on Thursday. Stick to ABC poker as I am playing ittybitty stakes. My intention is to win between 4 and 7 BB/100 hands per table. I have PT3 and a roll I 'only' use for live play so if needed I can dip into the other roll after this experiment. I plan on doing this for the next 4 Thursdays and then seeing where I am at.
Still not a huge sample but a few thousand hands is good place to start right?
Thanks
