Good morning. A couple weeks ago I started a thread asking how to eleviate boredom on the tables in micro and a lot of you recommended trying multi tables vs higher stakes. Yesterday was the first time I tried to multi table and I just want to say thank you to all who suggested it. It was great! Far more exciting and I believe it may have also helped me with one only major leaks, the dreaded hero call. :)

I started this thread to first off say thanks for your suggestions and, not to be presumptuous, but create a thread for people to discuss multi table gaming.

I'm just sitting at two tables currently, makes it a little more challenging to read opponents but like I say it seems to have eleviated my want to jump in to a questionable hand. Anyone else care to comment?

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Congrats on having started on multi tabling, and that it has alleviated the boredome of grinding a single table. Over time I'm sure your tables will increase, not sure if you currently make use of a HUD but as you increase the amount of tables you play it becomes a great tool to assist in recognizing regulars that you might not have taken notice of accross sessions just having their screennames.

My only comment is once you go the ways of multi tabling you will never want to go back. Playing only a couple of tables online feels so boring after a while unless they are games such as cc league or other home games where you are chatting while playing etc.

Good luck in your multi table endeavors.

about multi-tabling, if you will practice every day for a month to be able to play 9-tables, but it needs to make a decision quickly, look learning videos parsing game if you play X tables - so complex is reduced by 2, when you're feeling confident and speed action increases, and one more thing - play the same limit to smooth dispersion, good luck!

I think multi-tabling is a double edged sword. It relieves the boredom of a slow tourney (a subject for a new thread) and to a point, allows the player to play more tables which equals more experience which can equal an increase in the BR.

However, it's come to a point where "extreme" multi-tabling is affecting the way some players play the game. Playing 18-20 or more tables and up to 90 (or so I was told in an E-Mail from pokerstars Tech Support) essentially removes the skills many of us take pride in when playing the game either live or on-line, and the player becomes more of a robot utilizing numerous pieces of software to assist them in playing that many tables.

Out of interest, how many tables do "YOU" think you can play effectively while utilizing your learned poker skills, and without the added use of some software.

For me, 3 in a HP game, and 4 in Turbo tourneys. I don't normally play any slower than that unless it's a big $$ tourney when I only play 1 to concentrate on the game at hand.

Thanks.

Personally I'm happy playing two tables and that's it. I still don't get how some can play 6+ tables. Yesterday I found that a couple times I had a AK on one table and another value hand like KQ or QQ on the other. I can't imagine trying to play 3 or 4 tables when the same kinds of hands come up.

Tops I have ever played was 16 tables of stt's, just recently, and 16 on cash tables sometime last year but my latop doesn't exactly fancy running that many with tracking software as it gets a little laggy as she don't have a very powerful CPU.

I play 9-12 very comfortably and have done so relatively well even without the tracking software on the low limits I currently play. There was once a time I also wondered how people can mass multitable but as time passes and you get used to it you just don't want to go back because it can be very boring with just a couple of tables unless your like ITM on a FT where you want to focus 100% because of the adjustments you have to make.

multitabling thus has the benefits of keeping from getting bored, gaining experience to increase your tables go forward to find your sweetspot of your best hourly winnings.

It's not for everyone, but its the best way to gain the most profit if you can do it profitably.

Just happened to me, I had A-A on one table, K-K on a 2nd and A-K on another. Gets hectic.

umitigated disaster

usually if I finish up on money id never put it down to luck im better then my opponents so its deserved. and when I have very good session way in excess of normal expectations its just variance. but when I have losing session its awful luck god hates me and people rigged it against me.

seriously though new monitor came today and just had my first session on it. it was a miracle that I finished up on money tried too many tables struggled to flip between monitors timed out a lot and was making mistakes due to mis reading hands and stack sizes etc.

how do I go forward do I try to keep doing this until I get used to this or do I stick to the huge monitor. huge monitor can allow me to play sixteen tables and see everything, what im wondering from others who have got multiple monitors before is it something u have to get used to and just do get used to eventually or am I better off just sticking to the big monitor as multiple monitors not for me?

Mate, it should be that which you are comfortable with.

I prefer ONE monitor and no more than 4 tables, but that is what I am comfortable with cause I prefer to attempt to get to "know the opponents" better (reads). GL, Wally

The more tables you try to add at once, the harder it will be. Also keep in mind that each person probably has a practical ceiling. So, you may be able to play 16 tables if you work your way up to it, but maybe not.

maybe you have to play with fewer screens, if you got lost in the poker session, or lower limit bet, the idea is to finish the session with gains.

Playing more than one table

I have recently started playing two tables at once on the 25-50cent cash games on pokerstars, I've found it very hard to play as well as I may play 1 table, and I also tried three tables which seemed to overwhelm me. I see most regular guys play heaps of tables at once. How is this possible and is it a matter of playing very very tight poker? Are these guys only playing top premium hands only?
I am slowly learning that online cash playing is about being a rock and super tight, otherwise I seem to just lose money!! is this accurate?
Thanks for any advice

2 tables is still low in number. Some are playing 8, etc. You can adjust your table windows to fit in the screen like 4 tables for example.

Just play first on the micros if you want to multi table and just be TA all the time.

You lose some EV at a particular table for each new table you add, but if your EV is high enough you can still make more by multi-tabling.

I use a simpler strategy when multi-tabling, which costs some EV, but sometimes you want to play in more than one game for one reason or another :)

The complexity obviously goes up when multi-tabling, so a simpler strategy to reduce the complexity somewhat seems indicated.

When I didnt know exactly how its done it was hard to play on 2 tables just aswell, but then I saw a friend playing and it was not that hard afterall.
You can bet that most of the people that play at more tables, play just their strongest hands, folding anything else. So, if you are folding your worst hands playing an STT would become boring fast, or atleast to me. This is why I pop up a few tournaments - because I get bored. Most of the time you will not even have 2 big hands happening at 2 different table ( It will happen often, but not all the time ). So it just comes down to "fold, check/fold" and watch the other tables. You can try this with play money if you wish, join the lowest limits so you can pop up more tables and see how it goes for you. It was hard to me in the beginning to play something more than an STT,but now it just doesnt make sense. Even if you play at 8 tables you still will have free time to watch some videos on youtube or something.

I play 2 tables only because I find 3 tables to become not fun at all, I want to have fun while playing poker. I find playing 1 table too boring and playing 3 tables too much. I also don't want to compromise the size of the tables for multi tabling so I won't be trying 3 tables until I have a bigger screen.
