..i'm an online player so i'm probs way off, but if you lose the hand you don't have to show unless you're asked to (which is bad etiquette by them)

if you have the winning hand then obv you have to show..

Better to leave 'em guessing than to let 'em have a single clue....IMO

In other words... almost always muck (except for occasions when ya know it will help you latter in the game!)

Mucking is not only OK, but something you should be in the habit of doing ALWAYS, unless you have very good reasons not to (and IMO there are not many) or are obligated to show, as in a winning hand.

The only reason I can think of is to influence the outcome of later hands, but this is so situational, and will seldom be a valid reason.

Def only muck if you think it will bring you greater returns later on, otherwise you should always be doing this.

Sometimes I'll muck when called on a bluff or if they table a better hand first but sometimes I'll proudly announce, "6-high."

The only decent reason I can think of to show hands when you don't have to is when there's a meaningful probability of influencing the opponent's future play. IMO, this doesn't actually happen all that often, especially at lower stakes where many people are "I play my cards" types, and thus both largely oblivious and unlikely to change from he same plays they'd make if you hadn't shown.

It is absolutely OK to muck , it always amazes me that players show their cards when they dont have to, it makes it alot easier to put them on thier range in short order.I agree that there are strategic times to show but they are the exception.
I suppose I would probably show a royal flush just to do it but that decision isn't something that seems to commonly present itself .

I show if only I can be quite sure it will tilt my opponants. I've been shown bluffs before, it does tilt me a bit sometimes but in general you should always muck your cards.

I never ever showed a hand for the first few years of playing. Playing some small forum and private games I noticed most everyone was showing. Still didn't show and always mucked, even those proud to show quads.

Talking with a few online players at the live cash game really changed my view on this. Most times showing a very strong hand on a good lay down from your opponent will sometimes buy you a hand you may or may not have got otherwise.

So in small private games I will show basically out of courtesy and will show a few hands now and then looking for it to pay off later. Showing with people you play with all the time really doesnt gain anyone at the table much.

There are folks at micros who;ll show AQos (two overcards) on show an 8 (mid-pair) when they are up against aggression and fold. As if that's a great fold.

I like the rabbiters though. Free look at what they are betting or raising with.

I set automuck on. No reason to show anything. Even if you show, there's no guarantee it'll have the effect you want.

Muck everytime IMO. Unless you want to affect your table image in some way by showing your cards.... i.e. you have been bluffing alot recently (maybe been caught in the act) and want to continue bluffing heavily for the moment. In this situation, showing off a good hand every once in a while will make your opponents think twice before calling .......

In the last 6 months I can probably count on one hand the number of times I showed. I have always been of the opinion you want to see my cards you pay for the privilege

In forum games, I may show just to let the one folding know they made the right call.... Of course that is out of the goodness of my witchywitchy heart ;)

A couple of well timed shows can reap dividends in the short term. Its so situational and dependent on so many factors. Unless you feel you have something to gain by showing, muck away.

Online, always muck.
Live, I think you have to show if you are the one called. Otherwise, muck.

Live you do not have show if you are called - you can still muck - of course you are forfeiting the pot by doing so. Had a guy just do that with me last Friday night. He shoved on me after the river and I called. He immediately tossed his cards in and dejectedly said "Nice call."

Lol, yeah, I guess that is true, but that is pretty silly, IMO.

mucking is fine but sometime it's good to show your cards if they are good so u dont be some bluffing guy. Anyway it depends on your gaming style.
