Mucked cards

I had a discussion with a friend of mine during a poker game about a situation, I looked up the rule in a rule book awhile ago but don�t remember the section. The situation is player a folds and in mucking his card the cards touch another players card who has not acted yet, my friend believes the player who hasn�t acted cards are mucked as well as the the player who folded. When I read the rule it said that a player acting who�s cards touch mucked cards are considered mucked, not the player who hasn�t acted. Who is right and what section of the rulebook covers this?

This used to be an old cheating technique. You raise and villain re-raises and when I muck I toss my cards into the villain's cards to "muck" his hand against you.

You should always protect your cards with a card protector or at least a chip from your stack.

This way if I toss my cards onto yours then my cards should be on top of the card protector and your cards can be identified.

A lot of people are sceptical about the safety of online poker, but at least you dont need to worry about something like this.

This ccan be handled different in each caasino / cardroom, but usually the rule really is that any cards that touch the muck or other players cards are considered dead. The idea is to make it impossible to cheat by exchanging cards with other players

That doesn’t sound right or very fair, you toss your cards and they hit mine now mine are mucked? Yours should be but not mine as I haven’t done anything.

If someone did what Poker Mike said intentionally toss his cards into mine, we would both be out of the tournament; him because he’s be on the way to the hospital and me for sending him there.

Toody you're right that it's unfair, but once mucked cards have hit your cards, it's no longer completely clear which ones were the live cards. As Poker Mike says, the best policy is definitely to keep your cards protected with at least a chip to prevent against this unlikely event happening.

Based on your comments though, I think that an opponent of yours who tries any funny business might be the one who needs to get protected instead of the cards Mucked cards

I used to be a poker dealer and I never had that situation come up.

If it did, the hand is dead.

The one time (Yes the One and Only Time) that I didn't protect my cards in a live tournament...

I had raised from Seat 6 with AKo and for some reason I was excited and it showed. Seat 10 absentmindedly tosses his cards into mine on the table. Not on top - not on the bottom - a true intersection of our cards. Technically they were mucked.

But I was excited because I had sat there card-dead for 1/2 hour folding and folding. And I guess it was apparent I had a big hand (ya think? lol).

So, the dealer calls the floor and the floor furls his brow. "Come with me." he says. He takes me around the corner so no one from the table can hear anything and asks me what my hand was and what suits. I tell him AK offsuit but not sure of the suits (I was too excited lol).

We come back to the table. He looks through the 4 cards and gives me my AKo. The BB had defended and the flop was 8-high. I c-bet and take the pot.

The whole situation was so confusing that I assume the BB decided that I had a pair bigger than 8! I was relieved and grateful that the floor took the time to make the fairest decision in the interest of the game.

I don't think the 10-seat intended to muck my cards with his. I think something about my excited energy also excited him to quickly muck his hand preflop.

This was a rare event and I don't think I will ever see or experience it again. I have seen other accidental muckings and mixing of cards preflop and unfortunately for that player, the floor (in that room - that day) deemed that their hand was dead.

I'm not sure what exact rulebook your referring to, but I have seen this and/or similar situations in live casino play where the floor uses a lot of discretion in trying to determine if the cards are easily identifiable, etc, so as not to end a hand or have to fold someone's hand if it can be avoided. So, I don't think you'll find there to be an absolute hard and fast rule on this.

The goal of any normal gambling is to ensure that everything is completely honest, it�s very since it is not so that gambling simply turns into fraud
