The most annoying river that keeps happening to me is
Hole cards low suited e.g. 24s
Flop: 2 more of the same suit... nice drawing hand...
Turn. 1 more to make the flush.... nice... big bet...
River.... yes you guessed it... another of the same suit.
So my amazing hole cards are not so amazing any more and anybody else with just 1 suited card will probably take the flush win from my 24s
Since half the cards from that suit are already accounted for it is still worth a bet. In the above scenario - if the 3 is on the table then I make the probabilities of a win approximately:-
vs 4 - 20%
vs 3 - 33%
vs 2 - 50%
heads up - 70%
Just for comparison... before the river... (with the 3 already on the table) the probabilities were approximately
vs 4 - 75%
vs 3 - 80%
vs 2 - 85%
heads up 90%
That is how much odds the suited river cost you
