Currently studying to become a better player but rather than focusing on what i need to do, i'm currently learning from mistakes and going over what i don't need to do.

I'm currently figuring out how to improve my game, but to all the experts who was once a beginner on CC what was your key mistakes starting off & what did you do to improve?

Hoping i can pick up something i haven't already looked into from this

thanks in advance

My advice to u is to not look at yourself as a good player when you have just started. We all have won big pots and said "hey I must be improving". That is not always the case. Even bad players win sometimes. I also think we look back at our formers selves and laugh about how good we thought we were the first time we won a big pot All in AA vs KK. Stay humble, study and u will become a better player. And soon u will be like all of us. Laughing at how u thought u were good before. Thinking ur good can cost u a lot of money

Like we all, all the time, studying to become a better players ;D
All poker professional players do mistakes, just like beginners, this not rare.
I do many times this mistake I start to play when Im sleepy or bored, that is big mistake, lose much when I do it, should allways get little nap before game, so can start with fresh head :D

My best advise to beginning players would be to learn from experience as you say you are. Probably the worst mistake a beginner can make is to try emulating what they see on TV. The hands they show on TV are selected from many other hands there are, for a lack of a better word, standard. Folding 7-2os out of position, to a 3x raise doesn't make for good TV.
Books and tips from pro's can be helpful but they can also be situational. In other words, sometimes their advise isn't relevent. What they suggest in some instances may not work in a play money game or free roll because a lot of those players aren't playing the same poker as the players in a $10-$20 NL game. Which brings up another piece of advise: success at a certain level does not always guarantee success at another level. You may kill them at play money but that same poker would be unsuccessful in a real money game.
One last important thing to remember is to not play over your head financially. When you are afraid to lose the amount you are playing for it can affect your decisions.

I have made mistakes and then I get frustrated with myself from not learning by it. My problem is folding good hands even though I know I could possibly have been dominated, that is the mistake I need to learn

I think that this is one of the most important fundamentals to learn when you first start off playing. A lot of people don't realize that how good a hand is really depends on where you're positioned.

FYP

Seriously you always have more to improve upon, that's one of the good things about poker.

Biggest mistakes?

Like when I played PLO the first time, and I dropped my entire roll because I was SURE I had a Royal Flush?

Those kinda mistakes?

Very true

Believing your good and expecting to win was one of my mistakes after i won two MTTs and come 3rd in a week, i thought i was untouchable, got to my head and i lost my whole backroll in a cash game after feeling inspired watching the Aussie millions on TV lol

I focused too much on short-term results, even single tournaments. Anyone will have an occasional good result; that's just how tournament poker is. But not realizing that and thinking I was as good as my best results was inaccurate.

HaHa yea +1 to this

Also, I used to think I was the absolute best EVA. Being really kocky w/o having humility doesn't get you very far. So...I've learned to be humble w/ confidence instead

My patience was non-existent, any hand with a K,A,J or Q was a good one, I'd chase every hand I got dealt no matter how bad it was and if I won a pot I thought
I was the best player on the planet.

Not that much has changed actually :)

Best advice I have gotten so far was to not worry about the outcome of the hand, just keep getting your money in good and it will work out in your favor over time.

My most menacing early hurdle in learning to play poker was impatience...it occasionally nips me again but learning to pick my spots and getting chips in good...

Being patient is big as well as learning how powerful position is. "Tight up front, loose in the back"!

1) I thought all my winnings all came from my skill, and all my losses came from bad luck.
2) I played tilted.
3) I moved up when my bankroll was ready, rather than when my skills were ready.
4) I played a lot of HORSE even though I was terrible at LO8.
5) I played for fun while telling myself I was playing for money. My desire to do cool things and make smart plays hurt my game at higher stakes.

Good Advice!!!

I am glad that I have read these post.. I play a lot at Carbon Poker since Full Tilt and pokerstars is not running for the USA. I am trying to learn patients when I play. I tend to play too many hands out of boredom and lose a chunk of money. A Lot of good advice at this site...
