Hello everyone
I'm a 19 year old novice player who acknowledge's at the moment I'm not very good, but yet very ambitious to grow as a poker player. Anyway let me cut to the chase, I've been struggling lately to fully understand pot odds. I would say I understand the basic's (such as adding up: example - 50 dollar to see a 150 dollar pot = 3:1 odds), but what I'd really like to know is... what is usually the minimum pot odd's to call? For example (it would be bad to call anything below 2:1 odds, but understandable and profitable to call anything higher) Just to clarify... I need to know the general minimum pot odds to make call. Anything less unprofitable and bad odds, and anything higher good odds and acceptable to make the call. Cheers.

In general you want pot odds to be better then your poker odds, so when you win you'll win more than you lost. As zEric said you need better then 4:1 to make a profitable call with flush draw, better than 5:1 for oesd. In order to understand, and successfully use pot odds you'll need to understand outs, poker odds, rule of 2 and 4, without those pot odds cant be used profitably.

I highly recommend strategy articles on this site, i'm reading them right now, the provide much easier explanation than books and you'll learn much faster with it...

Thank you for sharing the book with us :)
:afraid: I didn't realize that was a link to the ENTIRE book. I could be up all night reading this. This book came out in 2004 as the poker boom began, so Dan saw the upcoming need for it. Being from Harrington I bet this book is pure gold. Thanks for the link!!!

I didn't think it would be the whole book too, I just clicked on it to see what section it covered. :)

It's a must read but Harrington IMO was already out of touch with the way poker and tournament poker especially had evolved and now that its nearly ten years old a lot of his plays are far too nitty for me. Very good for learning the basics though!!

I think his strategy on the status of a tournament is still spot on not out of touch at all :)
