I ask myself if is it worth stay in front of the computer for 3,4 or even 5 hours playing poker and win just litlle money for example 70ç 90ç 1,10 etc, it´s stressing isn´t it?
I played the jackpot 80k series on 888 poker and got 13 position and my award was 1,02$ ,its litlle money for 5 hours of playing,I got tired and nervous.Of course I wanted more but in the end I consider that my experience increased and I could see different fases on a tournament.I´m happy and I really would like to know your oppinion about the question is it worth? spend too many hours with too many players on cheap tournaments?

I think at the beginning we all get excited at first when we win anything,be it a $1 or $2,then it`s natural to want more.I find i`m most comfortable buying in for a $1 of $2,then i don`t mind i lose it,it doesn`t `hurt`.You can play freely, without playing with `scared` money as they say.I`m a big believer in if you can`t win the freerolls, you won`t win at micro`s either,,,so why deposit?Practise in freerolls until you win cash, then play micro`s with that,,,if you lose it,rinse/repeat!:deal:

If you have no money for a Deposit and you play freerolls to earn some sort of bankroll that is certainly it is important for you to understand what you are playing.

Playing jackpot 80 k tournaments is hard but it is very necessary for beginners to hone their skills, I play such a tournament when I have free time, but I do not like playing in such a tournament with unlimited rebuys, because players buy chips and they are long take off from the tournament, for such a tournament you need a lot of free time and a lot of patience and of course good luck!

Yes I do think it is difficult and stressing. I did the same question to myself over and over... specially after 3 to 4 hours when you get like AK x AQ and lose it on the river, you know that ? And then you say 'OMFG I could have gone much far!' and you realize you don't know if tomorrow you will beat the same variance of a 4000+ field like today where you cashed $1.15 busted like 350th out of 4500 players ?

In the end it is about hope. Hope that the little profit you may have monthly will be stuffed by some great results here and there and that it will be possible to move up smoothly.

I don't know your age or if you have a regular job or study etc but I would say if you constantly make these amounts on tourneys here and there, and also on the freerolls, so keep doing it and don't discourage yourself IF you like what you're doing. And of course, always dedicate some time to study. Like people say over there: 'É uma cachaça!'.

Best Regards

For MTT it can be a frustrating way to grind. For cash games, definitely worth it.

Just try to remember that you are building your bankroll with those winnings, no matter how small. And once your bankroll finally gets big enough, you can enter bigger games where the prizes are also bigger. My advice is to try out cash games where you can build that bankroll more regularly.

You can also consider depositing slightly bigger amount and take shots at bigger tournaments for example. But only if you can honestly afford that. Always keep your skill level in mind as well.

As a summary, there's nothing wrong with winning only small amounts. Hey, at least your winning! And the more you play, the bigger your bankroll gets, you gain experience and soon your bankroll is big enough to go higher.

In order to successfully play on higher levels MTT you need 2 things: bankroll and skill. By playing micros you're building your bankroll and improve your skill. So yes, it's definitely worth it.

Trust me it’s much harder to win a freeroll on 888 with 3000 players then it would be to win say a microstakes 5 dollar tourney with 100-200 runners! Its the fact that you need not to get unlucky so much as there is so many runners in freerolls and not to mention those 3 min blind levels! So I got to disagree when you say if you can,t win a freeroll you got no chance to win a micro tournament

I think you are both right.

The small percentage of players who win prizes in a typical freeroll makes it more difficult than some micro tournaments.
CC freerolls, at least the ones open to US players (I don't know about the other ones), pay a larger percentage of the field, so they are an exception.

But skill still plays a role, even in those huge freeroll tournaments. If a player enters many of them and still cannot find success, then they are not likely to profit consistently in games that require a buy-in.

It really is difficult to spend hours playing to win 0.02
But you do not have money and you want a bankroll.
you will have to be patient and play these interim freerolls

A few qualifying questions before knowing the answer to "Are the Micros worth it?"

Do you have a job earning a decent amount of money?

Is poker just a hobby/entertainment to you, like playing video games or watching sports?

If you answered yes to those questions, then there's no problem with you playing the micros for hours at a time and only yielding a dollar or so out of it, if you're enjoying the time being spent.

However, if poker is something you want to take seriously, and you have aspirations of making substantive money from it, you can only play micro-stakes for so long. I don't know how long you've been playing, or how comfortable you are with your skills, but the voice inside your head questioning whether it's worth it to spend several hours of your day only to earn nickels and dimes is on to something.

If you are young, earning money outside of poker, and don't have a family relying on you, and you are at a minimum a competent poker player - why not take a shot at some higher stakes?

I believe it is all "relative". I never had the extra money to be able to deposit every week or so. For me this meant that I had to practice very tight bankroll management. That means playing very small stakes, until you build a bankroll that allows you to move up. Yes, it is boring, but I think it helps develop discipline. I know people always complain that in the micros, people play crazy and it is all luck. Some of this is true, but again you start to learn just what is a good spot, and also how to play against very loose players.

In the end, you have to make the decision. If I could afford to finance the variance, I would have played some higher stakes at the beginning but I am still playing small buy-ins even though I have built a little bankroll just because I want to feel safe. I never want to worry that I cannot afford to lose this buy-in. How much risk are you willing to take is the answer I believe.

Are you only playing poker? I play the hours on end but it's online and I'm home so I can do chores around the house. I shop online, I clean, cook, watch TV, help with kids homework, let the dog out, pay bills, workout. Playing for bigger pay outs means bigger buy-in. It really all depends on your goals. For me it's more about convenience and not putting money online but winning it thru freerolls and micros.

Think about it as stairs. You are doing hard work climbing up but you are still getting closer to the destination point with every little step. You can move to higher stakes when you feel comfortable to do that and you have the bankroll.

If you're playing poker to look for the quick buck, then you will be disappointed, there is no fast track to poker success.
I understand your frustration, I play micro tournaments.
It is depressing if you look at it as a wage but less depressing if you look at your ROI(return on investment).

It is necessary to proceed from what goals you pursue. If your goal is to win the bankroll for free for the next game at the limits and raising the limits, then yes. If this is how you are trying to earn money, then definitely not, because in real life there are more opportunities to get much more money for spending time on the game, while being sure of the stability of getting money.
