Question for the board... Generally speaking, are the micro stakes a good place to improve your game? From what I've observed, there is some pretty eratic play ($.01/.02 tables) and you need to adjust a little bit. Can you pick up bad habbits playing at such low limits? Thanks.

At first, I would have said yes... because there are so many fish just shoving and looking to double up and goof off, etc. (I was one of 'em...)

But after awhile, when I started taking the game more seriously, I enjoyed playing against the erratic play, because it taught me how to be patient, how to try and read my opponent, how to play/defend against maniacs.

Play tight and don't do anything creative.

If you cant beat 2NL, what makes you think you'll do better at $200NL?

For sure it is a good way to improve. Like Stu said, don't get cute....Just play a nice TAG style and you'll do fine.

micro stakes are a honey jar for the TAG bears, easy way to make money.
just as they said, be patient, wait for hands and you'll make money in no time, i play in em for the sport and the easy 10$ in 30 minutes.
i multi table them and wait for big pockets pairs, there are always fools waiting to pay you.:D

I concur. A great place to learn and prosper in many aveneues of your game. As stated previously, be patient, use common scense, and look for a reason to fold against their raises....Give them credit not your chips.

When you got some good hand and in position. If there are 4-6 limpers make a higher raise 6-7 BB to get just one or two calls. It is easier to handle them.Of course think of your bankroll. You got to know what are you doing.Do you have 25-30$ and plays micros or you got greater bankroll and have came to plunder micro tables.

Well, Micro-stakes was how I learned to play poker. Of course, it involves a lot more than playing. 1/2 the time, I was thinking about hands I butchered and how I could play it better, reading 2p2; cardschat, watching poker videos. After which, I attempt to apply the concept in the microstakes game.

Playing 2NL teaches you patience and valuebetting. At each level, you're going to learn more. So, I'd say yes.

Thanks for the input all. Yeah ljove, I've got a bankroll of about $25. Won a couple freerolls initially and now slowly trying to work my way up from nothing.

The others have said it all already. A good way to learn poker? Maybe so. The play is so eratic that sometimes you can hardly call it poker. You will meet a lot of players that just 'shoot from the hip, so you will get donked out on sometimes. But with good TAG play, you will win some nice (relatively speaking) big pots.

I just recently started playing the micro tables as part of FTPs Take2 promotion. Just played long enough to get my checkmark for the day, but most days I earned $2-3 by just playing at 2 tables for half an hour. Not bad.

I also recently started to play more of the micro tables because of the Take 2 promotion. I had played very little before that, and never 2 games at once. I am more comfortable playing SnGs and MTT because I know the most that I will loose will be the entry. I lost at first, but by the end of the promotion, I saw that I showed a little profit by the time I got my checkmark for the day. I still have a long way to go before I will feel comfortable playing the ring games, but at least I am playing them now. Big step for me!

One of the worst things you can do is start playing like your opponents. You're supposed to find a table with players who are weaker players than you. So, why would you want to play like them. At micro stakes the best way to beat the game is to play ABC poker. Play really tight. Almost never bluff. bluffing is overrated. It's not like what you see on tv.

I am guilty of playing like my opponents until I learned my lesson. I was supposed to exploit their weaknesses not duplicate them....lol.

very possible to grind out some decent coin playing pennie tables..like 10 an hour is very obtainable playing 01./.02 if your willing to multi-table. fire up 10 tables, play abc for an hour..boom your on the way to a bankroll.

I agree with this. Just playing ABC poker on multiple tables is very profitable at micro stakes. Good Luck!
