I've noticed that the level of skill from microstakes can vary quite a bit. My advice would be to watch a table if you are on the waiting list. Try and find out how the players are playing.
If you sit down and haven't had a chance to watch any action, you are going to want to play tight until you know what is going on.
If people are playing tight and there is a lot of folding, start opening the tight range and betting. Keep in mind that the play style at the table can quickly change from tight to loose depending on how much you start opening stuff up.
Then just when you think you have a good handle on it, you will get beat with something unexpected. Things change quick in Microstakes and there is a wide variety of players. Continuously monitor the flow of play.
However, if people are raising every other hand to 5x BB, don't start opening your range and betting. If that is happening too much, just wait for your AA, KK, QQ, AKs or switch tables.
That's my take on it! Hope that helps.
