Fold the next hand no matter what you get. In fact, don't even look at your cards. Just wait til it's your turn and flip them into the muck. Repeat this process until you are over your emotional burn.

Getting over a bad loss is critical for your development as a poker player. If you don't have the maturity to handle it, you need to rethink why you play. Otherwise, you will continue to throw away good chips after bad.

Maybe i need some kind of a rule not to play 3-5 hands after a big lose, but sometimes i do get good cards right after the lose, and i don't want to miss the opportunity to win back some money.

Do you play more aggressive after a lose?

This happens more often than you think.
I used to be like this too, but I noticed that it don't worth it when I could win a tournament that I lost a big pot and only 5bb was left, but with calm I could revert the situation. Since then, I believe in any chipcount to continue fight in the tournaments.

Yeah, sometimes it's surprising how common it can be to turn that remaining 3-5BB back into a viable stack.

OP: Whenever you feel that tilt coming on, just keep saying "chip and a chair!"

I'm not sure what your marijuana laws are like in Israel, but smoking weed is a bulletproof way to eliminate tilt. You'll remain calm, move on to the next hand and brush it aside as no big deal.

If that's not your thing than you really just need to grow up and get over it. Are you playing tournaments or cash by the way? If your playing cash games than simply sit out and come back in 10 mins or so once you've calmed down. In the end, you need to realize that you can't control the cards or outcome, you can only control your actions. There's no reason to get upset over something you can't control.

wow I'm not the only one to whom this happens. I have exactly the same problem and do not know how to fix it. I lost good tournaments because of this great evil: S

Just read and article on losing and getting over a big lose, game or hand. He said the key was to say: " That was unfortunate"

Mostly tournaments.. thats why i can't really sit out. Besides, even if its a cash game i dont like getting out, because i am already invested and know other players and the way they play.

And thanks to everyone for your tips :)

Tournament is very easy to sit out. Just get up from your computer, go to the bathroom, get yourself a drink, go into a closet and let out a good yell and then come back. You won't miss but a hand or two, and there is no such thing as a guaranteed winner. Once you have calmed back down, go back to the computer and start playing. You are going to get bad beats in every tournament. It's just going to happen. Even AA will lose about 25% of the time. If you can't deal with it, then you probably should not be playing poker.

I understand your frustration after a big loss, alot. You'll find about 90% of the time that after a big loss of chips and you play the next hand that the other players at your table think you are "on tilt" and to me it sounds as if you are. (Same as me I'm afraid). The thing to do is to get tighter than you were originally playing, take your time and relax, you could try kicking the dog or cat or missus ~ mind you she might not like it!! However to practice folding the next 3-5 hands is ludricous. What happens if you are dealt AA in the next hand, assuming you are playing NLHE ~ your going to fold that NO NO NO ~ of course not.

Just tighten up a bit and if you get a really good hand make sure you get it in good. You soon double up again......gl :D:D:D

i just punch my screen and in the time i go change the screen i just broke i usually calm down... xD
just kidding as someone said, fold the next no matter how good it is, cause if the flop doesnt help you, you will be trying to defend your hand and being pissed of usually makes you take bad choices!

Good. Youre playing tournament and not cash when this happens.

Have to read about tilt and how to manage it. Cause sometimes, we are not aware we are in that state.

get emotions out of your game and stick to solid decisions based on logic and reason and probabilities.

Sure you can win AK with 72 off AIPF but for the most part you will be losing.

If you get mad cause u lost a hand and cant control your emotions, quit the game before your broke. That or stay calm .

Do you have any tips how to calm down after a big lose?

When I big lose, I like to take two orbits off to cool down. I don't look at my cards during this period. I just autofold. By this time, I have regained perspective and I start over like the big lose never happened.

It's hard to describe, but you have to learn to deactivate your emotions and play logically. Tight is right. Don't spew when you get mad, because you're just gonna lose more chips and rage harder. Just play like you were exactly before the suckout or cooler. Act like it never happened. Preserve your chips so you can get the chips you just lost back! Shoving and spewing when you're on tilt accomplishes nothing - It is illogical.

If you played the hand right and lost, you just want to keep doing the same thing. Play the hands right and the chips will come.

You should continue to play hands instead of just leaving them. Be aware you are angry and make sure your actions are led by correct decisions and not anger and if you cannot do this then you should just walk off the table until you are sure you will play correctly and buy back in at the right amount instead of just chasing what you have lost by going all in until you are even.

all in is the biggest mistake, just relax for a few min.... and then play like everything is ok..
