I've been working on a few things lately,
I'm pretty consistant with getting value out of bad players tempting in a re-raise getting a push on the river etc (in tournaments especially as theirs alot of Lags)
targeting logical thinking players who exploit betting patterns I sometimes reverse my image by playing LAG 30 mins or NIT and exploit the opposite
if there is a good table of solid players who will pick up on the exploit pots

I was wondering if anyone has a particular play that is good for making weak hands look strong,
I like get involved in pots with aggressive players instant call a c-bet or a raise pre flop, alot of players will give up their attempt to steal or bottle it on the turn with anything less than top pair top kicker, or nut draws and fire a weak bet - this can easily be picked up by the river (assuming you have a narrow range or confidence in a read.
(usually this effective late in tournaments)
I find the re-raise can open up a can of worms with a tricky player,
as well as a more risky play for accumalating..

Keen to find out some of your strategys for late tournament play and maybe a few idea's on accumaliting chips gus hanson style - does anyone here have that game in there locker

I think that in tournament you can make your weak hand to look strong at the later. In cash game i can't see any sense :)

i do this all the time..unfortunately you can't do it against calling stations or free roll lottery players. For instance, i was repping a flush with four diamonds on the board and the dude called with just a pair of twos..not pocket twos...something along the lines of K 2 with a two on the board.

agree cash games its probably better to multitable and just wait for spots when they come

as for tournaments 888 poker Is full of unorthadox wierd play, alot of players dont know what they are doing and as your saying about getting called
its pretty easy to get deep by just playing strong hands and betting weak play (as people give away alot of chips very easy)

pokertars you may find good players in the lower stakes then again it could be donkfest fish market on a thursday afternoon.

I do reccomend 888 Poker - I think any player from this site with a decent level of knowledge, discipline and skill will make a profit playing tournaments there

You mean bluffing? Yeah, it's an essential part of tournament play. Late in a tournament, you might go on a long stretch of being carddead, so you need to be creative and aggressive to stay afloat, maintain your stack, chip up, or whatever.

Ok so I'm going to give away a personal secret of mine. It only works when ur UTG at a table of mostly regs. Occasionally... U can bluff UTG with absolute nothing... And since u were UTG ur raise will be respected and u will maybe get one caller. If u miss the flop u check, and flat call a raise. On the turn a check raise is extremely powerful... It makes even the lowest caliber players re think the situation. The pot ends most of the time right there and I have tested this a lot of times. But if they call.... U can jam if u read some weakness. By doing it you are telling an incredibly strong story to the table. U raised UTG, check raised the turn and then jam the river. It emanates strength of the greatest kind and u will win the pot most of the time. Now... I understand that this play is far from standard as u might be raising 27 off suit out of UTG. but hey, I find it to be a profitable play. After all ur thread is about deception and I think the way I play these hands is deception at its finest and I personally recommend it even though its risky

I like that play JB
on pokertars its a very commen play for tournaments, (i dont raise utg with absoloute anything, but If it works for you I may start looking to add a bluff every 30 mins late state from UTG

I guess if someone pushes on you after your initial raise utg you know its likely a monster or they know this play themselves and pick up on it 2nd time round and put you to the test

it's more to it than bluffing,
bluffing is just an attempt to steal a pot everyone the average optimal bluffer will just give up once you call there c-bet and attempt a stab at the pot next time rather than risk more chips.

where as deceptive play is an art form i.e) you may go as far as re-raising a player on the turn tactically early on because you know he knows your capable of doing it with air
and he's good enough to pick up on your betting patterns, later in the tournament hel go to war 4th time you try something clever,
you know he's going to suss out your game so by the 5th time you make sure you have the goods and end up stacking them or taking his chips from his failed 4bet

I mean its taking things that step further I like to try out and here peoples ideas

I use the same play as you do though the difference is that i do this UTG1, UTG2 or UTG3 regardless if there are limpers or none. If there was a raise, i fold when i have a mediocre hand. If there were no raises- i never look at my cards, i raised around 4-4.5BB( btw, i only play cash live). If there were callers, whether the flop was scary or not I Cbet the flop ( standard move from a raiser imho), still not knowing what my cards were. Still trying to make a story that i have something here. If they still continue, that's the only time i peek at my cards. If i miss the board or got something like 3rd pair, i assessed my opponent where if i can sense some weakness i barrelled another one. And the results were really pretty good, though i only use this play two to three times during the session, with an interval of an hour or hour and a half. :) But like Jblocher says, this move is very very risky! :D

Damn straight it's risky :) if you are wrong it is terribly easy to get stacked by your opponent. Don't use it often. But it is a good weapon to keep with u in your poker arsenal

I play 6 max nl $50 and will 3 bet 2 7 if it means i might buy the blind. By doing this i break about even buf oh dear jesus, when i get AA and do the same thing, some poor frustrated bastard reraises or puts me all in he has no stack at the end of the hand. I also do a half pot( or a liitle more) on every flop. Sometimes it works other times i get reraised, but I create action like nobodies business. Takes a lot of discipline to play this way imo

It a nice play if you can pull the bluff off

If you can afford it then this is fine but those that are shorter then others and pull this off is just face palm*
