Today I have been doing some wood work at my ex-wife's house. We are best friends so I'm right at home. But let me get to the point. All day the words from several of you all keeps going through my head. "Just play solid poker". And you know what? These words have finally come to make sense to me. From day to day I try to do this more and more. And as I see, it does make a difference. Here lately I have limped with hands that I should raise with, and after the flop I'm glad I did limp because I hit nothing. So what it's all about is how good can I hold on to the chips I have until I do hit some good hands and add to my stack. I know one thing, I would rather catch bad cards for an hour than I had catch cards I can call with and them not come to the board. I don't even know if this makes any sense, but for me to play solid poker is to play it my best when I'm catching nothing and when I'm catching 2 out of 3. Bottom line, playing solid poker takes a lot of skill.

Yep Papac, I was playing live poker once, everyone was just shooting the bull ,put I do and did remember something one of the old timers at the table said and it stuck with me, he said a good poker player is a player who knows how to keep his chips once he gets them, no your idea isn't crazy because that would make the both of us crazy, because I pretty much had the same thoughts you had :proud:

Thanks MAX. That is the main thing about poker, hanging on to what you have.So to do that you always have to make the right moves. I see players going all in with AK all the time, but not me. I will limp or call a raise, but I'm not putting all my money out there on a hope and prayer. I will fold it. If I'm going to keep what I have then I can;t take chances like that. Now I'm talking about ring games. In MTT I do make the all in. But to tell you the truth I fold a lot of hands that many players will call an all in with. So I been told to play Solid Poker and that is what I do, and I win.

he said a good poker player is a player who knows how to keep his chips once he gets them

This is a personal leak of mine. I play way too aggressively when I have a huge stack, and notice I'm more willing to gamble on draws a lot more when I have a bankroll just because there's money to fall back on.

Slowly working towards a more solid poker game too.

Also, @PapaC- I fold a lot of hands most players would call all ins with as well, (generally preflop). A pair is only a pair.
