I only play for fun and will never be trying to make money at poker.

But for someone trying to make money the odds are better the more fish there are in the game.

The lower the stakes the more fish.

The higher the stakes the faster you can make money (if you are winning).

Is there maybe trade-off in keeping to lower stakes tables to make money since there will be more fish?

Not too low like penny stakes but low enough to make sure the percentage of fish give you a better return?

Maybe there is an optimum level of stakes where you get the best rate of return by maximising the trade-off between fish volume and stake value rate of return on time spent.

Not me personally.

It is more of a general question about whether their might be an optimal level of game stakes to aim for to maximise revenue per hour from playing poker to make cash.

Playing bigger stakes gives you the opportunity to make more money (if you are winning).

But winning is easier at lower stakes since there are more fish.

The higher up the stakes ladder you go the better the players and the fewer the fish.

So is there a sweet spot where the trade-off between more fish at the lower levels and more potential return at the higher level (per hour of time invested) is maximised?

If you want to earn something you need to play at high stakes. Otherwise, it makes no sense to play.

The better you play (Lower stakes for more fish)

If you get better, the number of fish will increase, so suppose there is an optimum like you ask, than the optimum will depend on you own quality, so the better you get the higher the stakes can get too.

Play at whatever level you can consistently win on. Also i dont necessarily agree that there is a direct correlation between the stakes and the level of play. there may be more fish on .02-.04 than .01-.02. but if u can win on like 100 200 then why not

I completely disagree with you! I know a lot of players, who don't play high limits but never the less they make profit!

A whale may be big but you can eat him one piece of sushi at a time.

What I mean is it really is up to your bankroll, if you can win a lot at small stakes make your bankroll bigger, then keep going up until you are the fish then jump back to a smaller pond. That way you will know where your optimum is at that point in your game.

"The lower the stakes the more fish."

I am sorry but this is simply not true. Even in most molecular stake level (read 0.01/0.02) there are lots and lots of serious, experienced players. Its not at all like you can lower the stakes and swim in more fishy waters.

True, the dynamics of the game changes, as stakes change. But in no way you could say that the lower the stakes, the easier the players.

As most have said, there are plenty of bad players at every level. Also, for most people, their win-rate decreases more slowly than the stakes increase. That is, they might be winning less in terms of bb/100 at a higher limit, but the increase in the size of the big blind means they are making more money overall.

If you have many tracked hands at each stake, you'll be able to make an estimate of which one is more profitable for you. But, unless you are losing at a limit, higher is probably more profitable.

the issue is complex.the fish is found in the high-stakes and average. just bad players play in small tournaments. I personally met good players that make a lot of money on tournaments 5/10$.I suggest you improve your results and train more

It is possible to earn poker at any rate. The question is how much time will you spend on earning a certain amount of money at low rates? Maybe you will come to $ 30 to spend the whole day? For me, this amount is beautiful. And is it good for a player living in a developed country. Where monthly salaries are above 1500 dollars.

This is untrue. Of course there's more weak/bad players in the micro limits. Sure you'll find some bad recreational donks playing at mid to higher limits online but the % of fish vs. good regs. is far lower than in the micros (.... because there aren't any good regs. in the micros... some are decent enough to be profitable but they're not what I'd consider to be 'good'... if they were they'd be playing higher limits)
