Can anyone give some advice on what they have found to be long term profitable plays.

What I mean is that I used to be a very passive player and hardly ever raised preflop. Over the last 12 months I have learnt to raise, cut out limping and am using far more c bets than I did even 6 months ago.

What I find is that if I try something new and it doesn't work the first few times I will stop doing it, though it might work 13 times out of 20 but I have failed 4 times in a row and give up.

The kind of plays I'm talking about are things like check raising, 3 betting, generally putting more pressure on an opponent. Plays that after awhile become natural parts of your game.

Thanks

It wont be possible to give you an answer. Every situation will be player dependent. For example, 3 betting a calling station to try to fold him off bottom pair wont work, so you would only 3 bet for value. Check raising is also not something you just "do".

The best thing you can do to get more familiar with how and when to do these plays is to post hands where you either did and they didnt work, or hands where you didnt but thought you should have. Or post hands where it worked as well if you are unsure if it was a correct play. Post the hands without results, so if you got to a spot where you checked and were bet into and either c/r or folded, dont post your play and you can get insight to how others would play.

Poker is about more than following formulas or recipes. For example, it's not simply "X and Y have happened, so I should always do Z". One reason for this is that the effectiveness of Z can be opponent-dependent; i.e. it's likely to work better / more often against some people than others.

What's profitable long term is learning how to recognize which opponents are better and worse targets in various situations, then playing accordingly rather than treating them all the same.

Yeah, I was just hoping someone had a silver bullet that I had somehow missed.
