I think I'm naturally more a long ball player, I just want to go for it and try and get all my chips in there when I think I have the best hand, but after reading Negreanu, I've been trying to play a little more small ball, at least with some hands. I do see the advantage in keeping the pot small just in case you don't have the best hand or you opponent out flops you. I must say it's really hard to play small ball in some online tourneys when people shove all in a lot. Anyway I'd love to hear players thoughts on small ball versus long ball, which they prefer, if they prefer one style for particular tourneys or for particular spots within a tourney.

I was long ball until I learned small ball. Tell me how much you have achieved being long ball and I tell you how much it is possible to achieve small ball. All in all, I would say serious players do not play long ball. Its not profitable in long term.

Every time I hear about small ball poker I think of a better thought out way of playing my hand and my rival. In other words, common sense while playing poker.

It all depends on the situation we're facing. There will be times when you just wanna end the hand as fast as possible (long ball poker), other times you want to see how all the action unfolds (small ball poker).

Anyway, I'd say I'm a strategy player in the making. I use poker theory to help me maximize my poker skills. If the situation is worth the shoving, I'll do it; if the situation is worth the post flop action, I'll take it.
