I am mainly a online player so i was just curious about the rules of Live poker

Just came around some rule that playing a hand if you stood up your hand will be folded.. is this true??

Does the tournament organizing committee provide a set of rules that we must abide during the tournament??

Post all the rules of live poker rules. how useless it may be.

ya you cant stand up unless your all in. also with the first card off the deck rule they have now if your not siting when they start dealing your hand will be mucked. if your playing cash games almost all of them your aloud to straddle which is 2x the bb the player to the left of the BB can put into the pot before the hand is dealt to be last to act pre-flop. also some tournaments will give you a 1 orbit penalty if you don't bet the nuts on the river. that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

OP - rules can actually vary a lot depending on which room you're playing in, whether it's a cash game or a tournament, and so on.

Here's a link to Robert's Rules of Poker (condensed just for hold 'em, the full version has other stuff for draw and stud games too): http://people.brandeis.edu/~poker/rules.pdf

Your poker room should provide a full set of rules, either in the room or on their website.

The standing up during a hand thing is usually before the hand starts, as discussed below - as in if you're not in your seat when the hand is initially dealt your hand will usually be killed.

Once you do have a live hand you're allowed to stand up if you want to - though obviously if you actually leave the table, you'll be considered to have folded.

That last one is only if you don't bet/raise the nuts when you're last to act on the river. Whether or not you're allowed to straddle varies room by room and game by game, so it always pays to check.

this is a very vague question, and as Oz said rules will vary from room to room

there are just way too many rules to just post, some rule sets are 30-50+ pages long when including all the games(wsop for instance), and most of them have to do with the fact that the game is live and not online, and to top it all off, some rules differ between tourney and live action

standing up may not be the correct term, a lot of rule sets now say 'arms reach of seat/chair' for hand to be playable, and this rule will differ from room to room if its the first or last card dealt to the players when your hand will be killed - we use last card dealt and if you are not within arms reach of chair your hand is killed (and you're not allowed to look at it either if you get there before its mucked)

However, I wont leave you without giving you the most important rule in live poker - if you say you are going to act on a hand a certain way (verbal action) it will/may be binding (if possible) EVEN IF ITS NOT YOUR TURN, so be careful and always pay attention to what is happening at the table

Every card room should have the rules available to you. I had not heard of that particular situation ever occurring where I have played though.

rules

Poker rooms and casino have proper etiquette and rules.
Also dealer & player errors lead to judgement by senior casino admin.
These judgements are usually fair .
However some calls favor the best result for the casino/poker room.
