So I've come to accept a sad truth about myself: When I play online poker and I can focus on the game and nothing else, I can play the game quite well. The problem is that I just can't ever focus on the game. I will sit there and play good solid poker for an hour or so, but I start getting distracted by the Internet (among other things) and then I start doing things like losing my reads on people and I start playing worse and worse until I finally get knocked out usually shortly before the money.

When I play live on the other hand, I play noticeably better and, since the only distraction I ever have on me is a watch I use to keep time, I'm able to focus better and longer.

My dilemma is that I can hardly ever get the chance to play live MTT's and cash games (since the nearest casinos with those tables are 45 miles away) and, unfortunately, there are no live casinos near me that do not run MTT's without rebuys (and I'm not a huge fan of those).

Do you think I should just keep trying to improve my online game or I should just focus and stick to live (the few chances I can) for the time being?

Sounds like you just need to work on your discipline. You know what factors are affecting your results, so don't let yourself become distracted.

I've had sessions where after 8+ hours I realize I'm paying more attention to shuffling my chips or how lousy my hands have been than what the guy to me left is raising then leading 1/2 pot on the flop with. Or what hands he's willing to stick a raise in with rather than try and get to showdown.

You should see if there are local home games, I seem to find them all over the place, and that may be your answer.

Also if you're really serious about playing online, you should definitely invest in some poker software. Then if you aren't paying as much attention as you should, at least your HUD will still have valuable information for you to utilize.

You shall try hard to make yourself well disciplined. Winning money is always much harder than you expected, so you must well train yourself so as to take money from others' accounts.

Online poker is the best thing that has happened in poker. You should definitely try to improve your online game, well, actually, there is nothing to improve, because the rules are the same as in live. I suggest you to just close every chrome or mozilla tab, listen to music and just focus on the game

Maximize what is available. Since online is convenient to you, then use and master it.

Live games are always there. You have the luxury of going there any day you want.

With regards to your problem, its you yourself to assess and adjust to things, i.e. invert things, patience awareness etc.

HUDs on bovada are only useful if the players on the table don't leave the session. Even still you're going to end up readless whenever you open a new table due to the anonymous aspect.
