Hi all.My question to the players which are constantly open limp.(Not including those moments when limpet monsters).
Please tell me what do you expect when you open any two cards Utg limp with(and not only)? What is this tactic?
Sometimes there are tables with players that have VPIP 50+ PFR -5.
You're afraid to make a raise? Why then do coldcall with garbage hands?
I'm sure the players(of this type) will read this topic. Please answer.
And of course I would like to know the opinion of others.
Good luck at the poker tables

I think open limping is bad poker.

At full ring limit holdem, maybe OK. But in NL, definitely not.

This is how it is taught for me, and also my current view:
  1. Pre player is thinking that my hand is too bad to raise, so they limp
  2. If they get raised, they think it’s only that little more maybe I can hit, so they can’t fold
  3. Some do fold, but not many, because they think they are only raised by better
Also in equation, in micros they are raised mostly a) either by tags bluffing most of their stack vs him b) Agros who like to raise because it’s fun and limper might well have better hand here so result wise noticing that limping is bad takes too much for them to notice.

not too keen on opening limp early with weak hand allows later seats to apply pressure, there again limping with a strong hand always invites trouble could be outdrawn by any rubbish limping late which is different matter altogether

Hmm I lost a hand today, when villain limped with AQo UTG
I raised on the button with ATs they then proceeded to call me down to the river... its really hard to tell where a weak passive player is in a hand as they play their made hands the same as their draws i.e. cold calling everything.
Most of the time can value bet the all the way, but occasionally like today they will actually have a better hand...

Sometimes limping can be very + EV.
BUT this is only sometimes.
And many are simply afraid to lose the limp, but usually lose more...

Here just lost the entire stack such Limper...

just punish the limpers, if you raise the limpers in position, you can probably soul own them becuase most of the time a 50vpip misses the flop ..so they are used to folding-

if a limper doesnt like to fold on the flop to cbets...just value bet them

i mix play. i think can outplay most players if see a flop so a limp is another way of mixing that play in and confusing a table etc.. especially if your catching cards. its not a great strategy if your not catching you got to know what is going on with your game. very dangerous if your catching 2 pair junk hands:) not so great if your catching bottom pair constantly. If I have a table that is non aggressive I use limping more. is that simple. I hope am hitting flops if not hitting flops I got to adjust and since is a non aggressive table I would start raising bets with position etc..

so would adjust to what was happening at that time.

For the most part it is newer players that use this strategy. Or they just have not had their AA get cracked enough by going into a pot 6 ways with them.

Since I started playing poker I always read and heard that limpers must be punished with raises and/or 3-bets even light 3-bets as I limper is a player that do not trust much informações his own hand and just want to see a flop spending few chips and prepared to fold to any raise!
However if the action completes with just limpers and YouTube are in the SB or BB with a marginal hand YouTube can also limp or call and play carefully pos-flop!

If the blinds are low, you just want to get lucky imho. I limp sometimes just tochceck the flop basically for free. Otherwise I raise hard if holding a good hand UTG

open limping is a bad and exploitable strategy. No top level players do it.

Any 2 cards can win so when the blinds are small I try to call any time I can get in for the blind. If I stay with a 2 4, then the flop comes 4 4 2 looks good. If not I can fold without loosing too many chips. If I get AA or KK or such I make a big raise so that 2 4 doesn't beat me.:D:D

I like limpers, beacuse we have a chance to see the free flop when we are on big blind.

i disagree that limping is bad play but i welcome this opinion which is why i'll open limp with KK or AA and then laugh when i rake in the pot.

Some players are just bad, and they want to see as many flops as possible, hoping to hit their speculatives hands. I dont like to enter on pot limping, even more on hj, utg, mp... it depends of my pockets and what i´ve observed from my opp... but limping every hand to me it´s a strong sign of a bad poker player.
