Hey guys,
I was hoping to get some better knowledge of the mathimatically side of poker. What are some good resources you guys would recommend to get better at calculating equity and math?
Playing with equilab is a great choice - go through a lot of different scenarios to get an idea.
It’s especially important to do certain
hands vs ranges, as you want to think in ranges of hands for your opponent vs specific hands (if you know your opponent’s hand exactly, you don’t really need to worry about equity).
Start broad - small pair vs a tight player on the button pre flop. Then narrow it as you go: such as a set on the flop vs a wet board for a loose player in the small blind who Cbet.
A tip - I prefer to use percentages of hands for my opponent. For example, 3% of hands are 99+ and AKs. This is useful as it might apply to a wide range of scenarios. A tight player on the button probably has about the same VPIP and PFR as a loose player in mid position (~30%).
