Hello guys, I've been invited to a live poker tournament next week with friends. I have 7 days to learn how to "act" around a poker table. I already know the basic rules. Any suggestion (book, video, ...) ?
Thanks

watch poker videos from this site because it will give you a better idea of how to play poker well. http://www.pokerstars.tv/ Also try to play at tables online because you can play a lot of hands fast. If you dont have money on a poker site then play on the play money tables.

Yes, basically.
1) How to shuffle when you're dealer.
2) How to count chips effectively.
3) etc.

i looked pretty nervous in my first few live tournmaments, and i even forgot to announce "raise" when i tossed in a bigger chip than the blind so it was counted as a call. But if you are learning how to shuffle im assuming its a home game and so there cant be too much pressure.

well, I did all kinds a shit the first few I played. Throwing cards face up, not announcing raises, string betting, handling chips like I never had used em before - I hadn't - and since I knew I was inexperienced, I just said "sorry, I am inexperienced". These were pub games, and some people were cool and some weren't.

Fuk em if they cant remember when they had no experience. Do your best. Play good poker.

home game is the best place to learn. Dont worry about it, just enjoy yourself. You can't learn poker in 7 months, let alone 7 days!

You can start by reading a recognized set of rules like the Tournament Directors Association.

Look it up on YouTube. It will save you hours of needles concern.

Mostly don't act out of turn, be nice, state your action when you raise, don't discuss a hand in progress, and protect your cards.

Stack your chips neatly so you can easily count out your bets. Make a cheat sheet for the chip denominations. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Go to youtube and watch some tournaments poker videos. You said it's going to be a friends game, so, they won't mind if you ask questions. And from my experience with home games, the newbie always made at least the HU. :)

Did it go well?

I started player poker not too long ago and at first it was always just in games around the kitchen table. This helped with the more obvious things like stacking up chips and shuffling and dealing the cards.
I found I got alot better at the game when I began to play online. One day of playing freerolls online was the same as playing for every night of the whole week on the kitchen table. I also read a couple of poker books before I actually put real money online which helped me even more. Phil Gordons Little Green book was my first one. It was easy to read and not boring like I expected. Well maybe a bit boring hee hee hee. But it is a long story why I had to read it. Now I am glad I did and I have actually gone back and read some of it again (oops don't tell you know whats his face, hee hee hee).

I think if you can get to where you feel pretty good about how you can play the game you won't be as nervous with the rest of the stuff like dealing the cards and stuff. And you can get alot of this practice online and for free sometimes but it is not as good when it is free.

Hope you had fun.
:)
