Hey all...had a situation on the felt tonight that if I don't put this on the forum, the next few nights of sleep would be all for nothing.
Playing live $1/$2 NLH at the casino. Had a guy in Seat 2 who pretty much raised all night from any position!! If he was on the button, he punished the table for limping. If he was either in the blinds or under the gun, he raised then too! It got to the point where the rest of the table was scared (me included) to play marginal hands (78 suited or K9 suited) because they weren't going to be played for cheap with this guy! Only premium hands stuck around to see the flop. Even when I did have hand (caught AKo,AJs, AQs and 33 at least once and had to lay them down!) I paid almost $15-$20 to see a flop only to hit air! Then the guy bets $30-$40 on the turn! The flop was usually 2s7h9d or something like that. Sensing that my hand wasn't going to improve and the pot odds weren't the best either (maybe 2 to 1 in some instances), I'd fold what would've been the best hand had the cards gone to showdown. To me, that's too expensive of a way to find out if you have the best hand or not. Is my logic wrong here?
Anyway, need some suggestions on how to deal with these types of players going forward or tips on how to learn to play like this. How successful is this method long term? Was this the perfect example of "deep stack" poker? And finally, how do you control going on tilt or being scared to play marginal hands when virtually every hand is being raised or re-raised like this?
