I have a good memory so I just do it in my head for the most part. Try to remember certain hands, his range, and what type of player he is. I know several players that take notes and use a little notebook.

In tournaments and sngs I like to make note of players who will limp then fold to a raise when the blinds are big especially when there are antes. At low stakes there are lots of players who will fold most hands they limp with to a raise. It's free money just waiting for you to pick it up!

On stars you can circle the avatars in certain colors, I use green for players I want to play, yellow for players I have specific notes on and red for players I want to try and avoid. This is for tourny play as I see a lot of the same players in different games.Good luck.

I make a few specific notes here and there but for the most part I rely on Note Tracker which is part of Poker Tracker 4. It picks up on most showdowns and makes notes based upon actions taken.

Eg. (from a tourney im in now)

[P] 3Bet Blind vs Steal All-In (Eff. Stacks: BB >= 8) with {AKo} (1)
[P] Called a non-shove 2Bet from the blinds with {96o} (1)
[P] Raised or Called All-in Preflop (Eff. Stacks: BB >= 22) with {AKo} (1)

Those are all added automatically by PT4 so its nice to look back on.

I play at Bovada so not much note taking for me, I will occasionally during a tournament on a player or 2 but it only last for that tournament. As far as notes on other sights one of the best things you can do is if you know someone is a fish put them on a friends list and find them when they are on and sit at the table they are at.

In sngs, mtts, and ring games take as much notes on a player as you can and if they adjust there play adjust your notes, try to keep the notes short and abbrieviated. If you dont take a note on someone and they limp trap you with AA or KK and they do that all the time if you woulda took a note on that then you coulda avoided that.
