Is it worth playing single table tournaments?

I feel like I'm much better at STT's than cash games however many people say that it's hard to make money out of them. Are they worth playing? Also up to what buy in levels are they soft? 7$? 15$? on pokerstars ofc.

Are you making money at them? << Seems like the only question you need to answer.

That question is way to vague to answer as everything you asked is so player depedant.

Which "people" say they're to hard to make money?

I mean; ask the top SnG STT player in the world who plays $1k+ STT's if they are difficult to make money when he's raking in 200k+ a year ;)

Games are as soft as the players are. Therefore; what may seem difficult to you, will be easy for a better player etc.

If you feel you're better playing them than cash, then play STT's, everything else is irrelevant, buy-ins, experience, money etcetc all comes in time.

Thanks for the explanation, I feel I'm better at them than cash + tilt is easier to control when playing stt's (for me)

I don't know if I'm making money at them because I have a small sample size. I've only played around 100 of them in my life and they weren't all at one particular stake. I have played around 50 1.50$ at which I have been break even, played 30 7$ out of which I have won just under 20 and the rest were 3.50's which I don't remember how I played. This was however when I was starting out with poker and right now I feel like I would be able to beat 1.50$ and 3.50$ BI stt's and I might even be able to make a profit at the 7$ at my current skill level.

I will start playing them in January as I am away now and I won't be able to play poker for now.

I also wanted to ask if 100BI's is enough for 6max regular stt's ?

Yes they are worth playing, Esp if you don't have the time to play MTT's.
Yes you can making money off of them.
It depends on your skill level for how high you can go for a buy-in, also can your BR take it.

I think they're a good starting point but I was told it is better to play the sit and goes with multiple tables like the 27 players ones or the 45 player games.

I used to grind 90/25 mans and they are the best format imo if you're starting out, also the buy-ins start really low.

I suck at DON's

Whatever you do; don't play those games! They suck ;)

I personally like the $5 and $10 DON's. I play em at the start of my mtt's to win my mtt BI's back. Basically turning my mtt's into freerolls

Focus on your situation, not on generalizations, especially when they are from people whose styles, preferences and circumstances may be highly dissimilar to yours. STTs are great for some people, awful for others, and there's a full spectrum in between. Plus for a particular player, they can be better or worse at any given time depending on various factors.

And even if you could theoretically make more money playing something else, ask yourself this. How much can you realistically expect the difference to be, and is it worth it?
