Who is too nursing a short stack you can get in ITM, but never win the best prizes.
Do you think this information as to jeopardize his stack and end up not getting any of the two possibilities.
- In poker we should risk it, or be more careful.

Most important is to be in profit on the long distance. No matter how you get the money.

Obviously it's better to win a tournament as that's where most of the money is made.

There is nothing wrong with finishing ITM, but there is a difference between aiming for 1st place and ending up ITM and playing to just finish ITM.

The old timers told me to be a great poker player money can't matter to you. If your too concerned about money you wont take the chances necessary to achieve greatness. But I think it feels pretty good to finish ITM.:D

For me is a steps process, first get in the money then go for the Final Table. As soon as you are in the Final Table go for the win.
If you start playing shooting only for the first place, chances are you are going to play too aggressive and finish with nothing.

It is better to win the tournament because you make more money. But at the beginning of a tournament focus on getting in the money, then once your in the money go for the win. Good luck at the tables.

The book Kill Everyone goes into great detail on the bubble, that tournament situation where you're just a few eliminations from the money, and how to effectively play it.

In short, you definitely want to go for the win rather than the minimum cash, but you also want to be smart about picking your spots to challenge opponents and risk your stack.

From the beginning you should be focused on getting to the money, then once in the money, the most succesful players will go for the win, the nature of tournament is that most of them are extremely top heavy money wise

ITM is more important to me than win a tournament. In long term achieving the ITM often gives a good feeling and a normal confidence about that your playing style is good .

So, you'd rather just make the money instead of winning an MTT, where the most money is made?

obviously better to win but you have to make it to the money first, so I would say the answer to this is obvious you cant win without being ITM so ITM is better

I think in poker can not always play too aggressively or cautiously. All depends on the position in the game.

100% go for the title, the real money in tournaments is on the final table, especially if you are playing micro buy ins, because in micro buy ins no matter if you get in the money, the only way to be really profitable and make something out of poker is if you go for the final table ..
the real money is always there ....

Often the real money is for the top 3 or so places. The real problem is those folks who frequently fold big hands around the money bubble just to min cash.

you cant win if you dont make to the ITM range.
If you're playing to win and taking more risks to build a bigger stack, then you'll make it ITM regardless when you do make those deep runs.

True, with more risks means there's a greater chance of you busting out before the money, but if you're playing to win, then min cashing isn't a concern. You should be more focused on how you're going to make it to the FT with a reasonable stack. You need chips to win.

Less frequent min-cashes, but deeper runs > more frequent min-cash, but less deeper runs.

Always, let me repeat that, always, ALWAYS play to win the tournament, that way u will easily avoid the situation of being short stack and playing to get ITM, ull find yourself in this spot as a beginner very often, coz the mentality of your game up to that point is to just make the money, but if u play with the mentality to win the tournament, then youll find out that making it in the money is easy, but making it big ITM is tough, FT where the big bucks are :D

You can't win the tournament unless you are still in the tournament.

With only 1-2 bb left after a bubble had burst, you need to be super extra lucky to win a tournament.

Play for the win. The better you get at creating a winning strategy that fits your style the more money you will make. You may not cash as much but those cashes will be worth much more.

You greatly decrease your chance of winning if you're only getting pass the money bubble with a short stack.

I don't want to go to deep into it, but you're always going to earn more in profits by going for the win and making deeper runs. And if your goal in poker is to make money, then why wouldn't you take the route earns you more money in the long run.

If we take 2 players of equal skill. Had them both played the same MTT, the same number of times. The only difference is one only plays to make it ITM, no matter what-which means tightening up their game severely once it got close to the money bubble vs the other one not worrying about min cashing or busting out before the money and just focus on accumulating chips, and going for the win...it's almost guaranteed that one going for win will earn more money even if their ITM finishes aren't as frequent.
