Is it a winning or a recovery when you win your money back from a villain?

I know this is possibly a stupid, fish question. But surprisingly, I just can't see tonight's winnings as a winning. Here's the full story.

Over a month ago, I've got bad beated by an idiot over this hand.

https://www.cardschat.com/forum/cash-game-hand-analysis-50/200-nlhe-full-ring-qq-utg-230299/

Then tonight, after a month, I meet this SAME player again at the casino at my table.

I had a full stack(bcz buy-ins are $40-$100) of $130 while he sat down with $100. I was on button with Aces pre-flop while he was mp+2. He came in pre-flop raising to $8. cutoff called. I reraised with my pocket Aces pre-flop to $30 flat. sb, bb, folded, mp+2 and cutoff called. Flop came out 6 6 2. Mp+2 bets out for $20. Cutoff folded. I just shoved all-in. He calls me and rolls over pocket 5s. THANKFULLY, 5 didn't come up on the turn and river, so I won the huge pot. I took his stack. it was like $227 pot or something like that. But rather than seeing this as a winning, I keep thinking to myself that I got my money back from month ago that I should've rightfully won and that if anything, he's still got $150 more yet to pay me back.

Is this a problem? I never had these kind of thoughts when I played online but when I play live and I actually play with someone in person, this is how I feel when I win my money back from someone who previously bad beated me and took my money. I have entitlement that I should've had it long time ago and right now, I have a hard time considering it as a winning. :hmmmm2:

You shouldn't really care who you lose money to or win money from. There will be swings, regardless of who your opponent is. As long as you make good decisions consistently, you will win in the long run.

Try to adopt the "Me vs. the World" mentality. It is not you versus this particular player but every other player in the world collectively. You may have lost a big pot to that player, but if you've won the same amount or more from other players, it doesn't matter. As long as you're making profitable decisions and your bankroll increases, relax and move on.

Any thing you leave the table with, regardless of who you took it from, is a win. Anything you leave at the table, regardless of who took it from you, is a loss. Don't think in terms of recovery as all that will do is set you up for chasing losses when you see someone that you lost against previously.

That may be true but I would be lieing if I said I never thought of trying to get revenge again certain players. I guess its a habit that is hard to stop.

- It's more of an EGO thing more than a habit IMHO. Especially if you got outplayed by the same person over and over again. I too have a similar experience against a certain player - a House player from the Casino I go to (although I was in the better end of the stick in this one).
I almost/always outplayed him (about eight times out of the ten times we were involved in a decent pot). And I can see on his reaction the frustrations he had whenever I took away his chips. And I can sense that he is raring to want to get back at me by the way he changes his demeanor whenever I was around the table. I think his ego was hurt because he is a House player and cannot win against a lady. :)

Don't think it as getting it back from that person. When you start thinking that way, you're gonna start opening up more pots against him, playing hands you normally wouldn't thinking you need to win your money back from him. That's how you start losing money.

Oh, when he sat down, I wasn't eager to beat him or anything. I just said to myself "oh, I remember this guy. He called my 3-bet pf all-in with A8o against my QQ. I will do that again if I get a good hand.

Just happened that I got Aces from button and I ended up getting in a hand with him. At the end, when I won the huge pot, it somehow didn't feel like I won but rather, felt like I was just getting my money back. But like many people in this thread said, I shouldn't do this because like absolute said, this is the reason why people end up chasing after their money. Loss is a loss and win is a win. It shouldn't matter who u lost it to or won it from. When I used to play online, that's what I did because all u see is hundreds and thousands of players sn that you don't bother dealing with it, especially when I multi-table. But when you play live and have social interaction, I tend to remember lot of things and this occurred because it's my first time where I end up confronting a villain who took my money in the past and get in a hand again, but this time, I end up winning.

Eh, I wouldn't call this a revenge. Revenge would be if I made a complete donk, horrible, -EV decision against this person and get rewarded by it by winning the pot. THAT would be a really nice revenge but then again, I would have to be extremely horrible and desperate for a revenge. I try my best to win money and make good decisions rather than playing stupid. Both plays, I made right plays and good decision plays that should've both rewarded me but only one of them did.
