May seem like a strange question, but at a casino other people aren't supposed to advise you on your hand. Is that the same with internet poker or is it accepted that this surely happens all the time?

Can't do anything about what one doesn't know about, or, for that matter, know if it goes on all the time or not.
What would be the point in entering a game & then have someone else make your decisions for you?

Ya its one of those grey areas in poker. Techincally I dont think its allowed, but its a common occurence.

Theres been some high stakes stories of this happening and its not looked upon lightly.

I would say the only time it happens is when players are being coached. And when two idiots who dont know how ot play anyway are doing it.

Even when coaching its not that big of an edge for the player as its very difficult to coach in real time. And this mainly occurs at the low stakes. I wouldnt even worry about it as theres absloutely nothing you can do about it and the edge that may be gained is very minimal.

I'm not sure about the coaching being allowed, but I think it should not be allowed. Poker is an individual game and should be played like so. One of the dynamics of the game, that makes it interesting and less about luck, is the skill level each player has.

I look at it similar to being in school. You go to school to learn and it is your responsibility to retain the information given to you. Your teacher doesn't sit next to you and coach you will you take your examinations and if you get outside help it is considered cheating. Whatever knowledge you accumulated in your mind prior to the test is what you have to use. So if you don't know the answer to question number 11 then you don't know it you can leave it blank or guess.

So whatever knowledge you have of poker when you play you just apply it and if you don't know what to do in a certain situation my advice is to fold. Or you can take the other option "guess" which usually translates to going all-in, but i don't suggest that if you don't know what your doing :)

I think they should make a rule against coaching in all honesty.

Every site I've ever been on has a "one person per hand rule", meaning, someone else shouldn't be coaching or shadowing you during a hand. But being the internet, it's kind of hard to actually prove it if it is going on.

Don't think its "allowed" yet I don't think they can prove it very easy if someone is being coached online.

Buy an account for a buy in or 2 for someone who wants to play a weak reg who under his real name wont play you. Is just an example of why someone would do that.

coaching

I think it is observed in most at the low stakes games, I haven't seen it in the higher games. It should not be allowed. As stated before poker is a skill game, one player against another.

I think it is wrong, but there are plenty of people that do it.

You would not be allowed to have a coach in a live game. Online, this is unenforceable. That doesn't make it right; it's a gray area.
