I remember myself watching poker vids, and almost falling asleep. now when I see myself back in those days, this "studying" was pretty much wasted time, I could watch big bang theory and get same results ingame as pasively watching instructional vids regarding poker.all players makes mistakes better to keep a track of hand history of that players.

You have to actively get involved in what you're learning to learn properly. I don't really watch videos very often; I find myself zoning out. To learn, I mostly listen to other people's takes on theory, study the statistics of the game, and try to figure out player styles and what they mean in terms of what they can have and how to play a spot.

And then I come in here, look at all the cash game histories, make assumptions based on what I've learned and post them; and get berated when I post something stupid (which is 2/3 of the time). :D

I found that without realizing it at the time, that I learned quite a bit from watching shows like poker after dark and the cash game and many many hours of film of the preceding years main event and other big tournaments...more so than instructional videos...I do not ignore them just they are not a tool I rely heavily on...

I mainly studied poker by playing poker. I play tourneys since 2009, so I guess a couple of thousands tourneys are behind me. :)
I often watched poker shows like high stake poker but I know that CG and tournament game isnt the same.
Sometimes I watch hungarian pro's videos to see the gameplay at high levels.

I always found that doing my own session reviews and how I played or if I played well or badly helps a lot more than watching videos from others. However, there is good value in watching shows like highstakes poker or others to pick up a little here and there. But by the end of the day you need to analyse your sessions, go over your hands and learn from that.

You might find that you actually played a very good session but variance wasn't on your side. Which makes it also easier to close it all up knowing that you played well but that you got unfortunate. Session analysis is more important than watching videos or reading strategy articles.

I use PokerEduManager for my session reviews and to set my goals or to add articles to my knowledge base. Mainly the knowledge base is what I use most since it allows me to paste entire articles or other content of the web to which I can go back later.

How many times have you read a good strategy article, put some of what you learned from it into play only to forget about it again? PEM KB allows me to go back any time and read something again or extend my notes and I just love creating some quizzes and share them with my friends. Check it out. Takes a while to get used to it but I love it and use it in combination with my HM2.
