Hey gang, long time no see. I've been busy lately, but I have managed to get a new computer, and even PT4, so I've been screwing around with their ICM calc somewhat.

I've tried to review some hands on my own, and my freakin nit computer is telling me to fold AQs 6 handed and all this garbage, fold AKo to a min raise etc...

LOL I'm joking in my description, I know there is value in ICM calcs, but those examples are real still...

I mean, ICM stuff is often far from intuitive, so I'm wondering how much weight to put into this stuff. Esp. as far as blind stealing is concerned, in the 14-20 BB range, we should still be raising Q10s in LP, eh?

I've also been playing a lot of DONs, and I think the ICM calc just freaks out there, and goes into rock nit mode

And then, with 3 bet shoving etc, re stealing, we dont give too much credence to ICM do we? Just go off VPIP and PFR?

Or is it the opposite at micro stakes? Many players are willing to call loose and gamble, (also fyi restealing never never happens at the microstakes, and it never works on other players anyhow lol) :marchmell

Basically I'm wondering how to use the ICM calc while reviewing

Oh ok here's a recent example... I JUST played this, so I havent run it through the calc, but I have an idea it'd say fold... (just ran it, it does say fold)

6 handed in a 10 man DON.. so the bubbliest of bubbles.. I am in 3rd place stack wise, and the guy in 4th in the small blind min raises me while im in the big blind. He's an average player stat wise. Nothing stands out.

Although I'm in 3rd place, I only have 16 BB or so, and I look down (or straight forward at my screen, in this case) at 10 10.

So many scary flops can come, and I'm probably good here, over 50% fav, maybe a 70% fav

So what is our strategy here? see a flop? give up against any bet if there is a card J+ on the flop? It doesnt make sense to set mine since were short stacked and opponent is never that strong to pay us off any way. Seems like our only value is preflop

EDIT

OR this hand I just played as well! In early stages of DON, on button, donkey who has been shoving over limpers a lot, shoves again. I have AKs and decide to call. some other idiot reshoves behind me and now all but 10 of my chips are on the table. Limpers fold ofc.

The donk shows Q10s, the re shover shows 62o (my god...) I'd be a 62 38 fav if it werent for 62o, and I'd be crushing all the times he shoves with Kx or Ax, which is pretty damn often. I know it's early in the tournament, but should I really be waiting for a better spot?

How much better off would I need to be? Again, I'm 70/30 over most of his shoving range, sometimes he shoves with 44 or some other pair...
or do we just stay out of these spots altogether in a DON?
