How can I improve? What are the important fundamentals for winning an MTT? I've read interviews of some players that said they never once watched a video or read a book and just played a lot and did a lot of trial and error. What are things you MUST learn and study to win an MTT?

I recommend that you Youtube it. If you watch poker and like the way a certain players style then search their name. I hop the best for you, please share your results, and GL!

I think rather you should post some examples of early/mid/late stage hands that you play, this will help a lot!

As a general rule though; you should be tighter at the lower blind levels and gradually increase your aggression/steal rate as stack sizes decrease and there's much more dead money in the pot.

Mtts are hard, the best only cash about 20% of the time so bankroll management is crucial. Good luck.

Try to stay away from pre flop allins, especially early in the tournament. And if you do get involved in a pre flop situation, number one; tried to make sure you are head to head, number two; try to make sure your stack size is much bigger than theirs, number three; have a premium hand.

I've been playing about 5-6 years recreationally. Dabbling in all the different formats. I just really enjoy playing MTTs though due to the fact of taking a small investment and winning a large amount.
I've watched videos, read articles, asked for hand advice, etc., but I just can't seem to get from start to finish. Help me please.

Just keep playing and play some more and some more after that. You need to put in huge volume before you usually see any results. I always say, Good decisions, patience and a little luck. Just do not give up, put in the time and effort! Good luck!

It's not clever to show everyone how stupid you are by thinking poker is rigged.

What have been your results so far? About where in a tournament are you getting knocked out? How many players involved? Final tables with any regularity? Are you drinking when you play? How often do you shove your stack into the middle and under what circumstances?

when i was learning mtt i have a good teacher by the way , 1 drill i had to do was enter a mtt and i could only play 2 hands per hour for the first 3 hours.but i had to stay and watch the action even if i played my 2 in the first 5 minutes , which i never did but there were so many things i learned by doing this that i will say it may well be the best lesson i have ever had in poker, really suggest you give it a try

If you're talking about freerolls and small buyins, you can be a winning players by learning to play a solid TAG game with little or nothing advanced / fancy. Once you achieve that, you can start looking to increase / optimize your win rate.

I've been trying some Freerolls and god are they tough for me.
Just play TAG to nitty the first couple of levels. Try not to steal until
antes are happening. Problem is you can wind up with 10BB and now it's
shove/fold poker.....

really?
I'll often play 2 or 3 hands per orbit in early going & on tighter tables I'm often opening twice each orbit in early levels.

Can you see why this might be more profitable than say only play two hands per hour?

AA is just a pair. Pair's get busted all the time!

He is not saying to play this way or that it is the way he plays - it was a drill, an exercise. I get it. I can see where that would be a very good exercise for MTT. A great starting point for getting into MTT.

Pretty sure it's a 'she' & I get it... but I strongly disagree with it being a 'good exercise'.

I think time spent railing someone else's game would be of more value (ainec) & you may as well not be playing if you're limiting yourself to 2hands in first hour (or just watch the tables instead, late reg. with player reads & a full stack, lol).

When I first started playing, I thought I had to play in as many hands as possible to win chips. I would play in a game with say 200 players and get knocked out in the bottom 5% constantly.

I read Harrington's books, and still couldn't put that information to good use. I regged in a tourney and wasn't able to play in it for whatever the reason I don't remember. I ended that tourney with my best finish ever, and, I didn't even play a hand.

That was eye opening to me. It taught me I need to be waaaaay more patient and pick my spots to enter pots. Patience, patience, patience. And, follow the Tourney threads here.

Yeah I never really watched too many videos or read too much strategy. I think early on the old saying "tight is right" is appropriate. Once you become more comfortable with the fundamentals start experimenting with different spots. If your of average intelligence you should get better the more you play. Play small stakesand work your way up man. GL :D

how i felt was a good strategy be aggressive and tight and extract as much value as possible for big hands early stages. Loosen up once u get a bigger stack.. when yyour monster stack play tight aggressive and u will make it final table.. and ft anything can happen
