I play 40 poker hands for both cash and Tourny games, do you think that is to many. Most I play from any position and if I get raised I simply fold it. Unless it is AA,KK,QQ,JJ,TT,99, AKo, AKs, AQs, AQo, AJs, AJo all other I play as I can get away with.

I have seen others raise 89s and 79s, so I cannot be to far off line with these am I? Or is this to tight?

Too tight?

Hey buddy, firstly welcome to Cardschat. I hope you get as much out of the forum as I am.

Ok I am a little confused by your question, it lacks a little detail. On your next post try and give us a little more insite into your strategy and we will will be able to give you a greater range of advice.

When you say you play 40 hands. do you mean 40 hands out of the possible 169 starting hands(disregarding suits) because if you are thats about 24% which i think is fine( maybe a little loose if anything between 15%-25% of hole cards seeing flops is considered tight aggresive play which is the best way to start out ( you are at the top of that range).

Playing holdem its important to play tight as a beginner ,as if you play premium cards you will be getting yourself into less sticky situations. I like your calling a raise range that's like the top 7% of hands which is good and you havent included many of the so called trouble hands which can easily be Dominated by a raising hand lke KQ or KJ QJ AT. just 1 more tip to simplify for others. rather than list every one of your calling fraise hands its easier to say 99+/AJo+ meaning any pairs 99 or better and any aces AJ or better. this called a "range" and most holdem players refer to ranges in this manner. Gl buddy and I look forward to some more of your post and some more details on your strategies good luck Damon789

Welcome to the forum Lloyd.

A trick a lot of new and even not so new members fail to use is the Stats buttons. Most sites have these stats normally bottom left or top left.
After a decent amount oh hands say 50( which is a small sampling) click on the stats button.

Each site may show this info a little differently but you get used to it'

If it shows that you are playing over 30 % of all hands dealt to you you are too loose and are playing way too many hands.

If it shows you are less than than 10% you are way too tight.

If you are just starting out and learning the game try playing between 15-24%

You can use this for cash games and tourney games

Good luck

I think you mean you play 40 starting hands. Is that right? If it is then I would say it is too many and too loose for a beginner. Try and be a bit more selective. Let the others see that you are playing tight and them throw in the odd raise with a lower hand.

Starting hands are important, but not near as important as position and knowledge of how your opponents are playing. If you are only paying attention to your own cards, and if your range is so easily defined, it shouldn't take your opponents long to figure you out. it sounds like you are missing a big part of the game, if you aren't adjusting your range based on your position, and your opponents.

How many hands do you were dealt?? Normaly you play more hands at a cash game. You should learn to play your position and your opponents...
