I started with a bankroll of $25 this past Monday and managed to grow my bank roll to $400 playing $3 and $5 sng by Thursday. I somehow lost my discipline and started playing MTTs and almost lost the bankroll I built. I took a last shot at a $10k tournament and placed 3rd and won $2k. So despite my foolishness, my bankroll now stands at $2k and I have no clue what to do. Am not a fun of fun games. Should I keep playing sng and move up. Buying in for 2% of $2k is around $40 but am now sure if I want to play at that level yet. Should I keep playing the $5 sngs and grow my bankroll cautiously? Any advice will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi!

First of all, congrats for your 3rd place ! :) I would be happy to loose my discipline and do that... Instead I'm going broke generally :)

Regarding your question, I suppose you should not jump from $5 to $40. But you should not stay at $5 forever neither. Therefore try some $10 or $15, play a little, just to check the differences between your current level and the upper. The game come tighter and tighter. And just come back from the level you are having some issue with, to the level where it was OK, to optimize your ROI and learn. And go back on the next level when you're good again, etc... etc.. Up to the million.

Good luck !

Thanks for your advice. I will move up to $10 and $12 sng, might try some of the triple ups as well. I'll see how that goes.....

Working your way up is better than buying in at a higher level and losing everything. You seem to be doing really well at the level you're at so why not stay there a while longer and learn how to deal with any surprises you may get at a cheaper cost.

BR management is an essential part of the game. If you decide to move up, give yourself a stop-loss and move back down if you hit that number. Generally, the idea is that you should have roughly 25 buy-ins at any given time.

Thanks everyone, I think am going to cash out about $1400 and then keep progressing gradually like i had intended to because i still have a lot to learn. Probably better not to run with the big dogs just yet! Thanks to everyone.

Does the withdrawal curse actually exist? I play on Bovada and i hear once you withdraw its difficult to win a hand.

I usually stay where im doing good, then i taking some shots if it goes well i keep staying until it goes bad and review and try to cover my leaks.
Like if you dont beat the stakes you play at you will lose your money in the long run doesnt matter if u got 10k and play 2nl if the 2nl beats you you will still lose it all so play where you beat the limits and start take some shots even if your bankrol is big enough to move further. IF you really enjoy the game then it shouldnt be a problem :) gl&hf in your poker career and gratz

it is obvious that you have the skill, but you have not had experience, so we thought in your head and just slowly forward

This is called ludoman, with this approach you lose again all..You need to adhere to a strict bankroll management 300bi how minimum, what again not to go to the bottom..

I would suggest playing 6 man table cash games with 2 to 5 dollar blinds. they can be a lot of fun with that stack you won. Keep up the good work whatever you decide to play.

I would move up slower than from 5 to 40 maybe try the 10 buck range for a little bit and see how that goes. remember the more you start paying for your buy ins the higher skill level of players typically
