Hi,
couple weeks ago played my first real money in a real life casino. I as expected, lost my money, but that just showed me how much I need to learn. Since then have played on smaller scale online, but sadly still not winning. Watched many youtube guides, hand reviews and pro games. Yes, I am aware that hard studying is needed and am ready to put the work, but dont know with what to start that would improve my game. Here is my track record - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1848vU8NhwH3Ikqe2-wyy3Cf5C6e10Gu7rM9DS2TV3Ws/edit?usp=sharing .

Also here is my last 100 hands in pokerstars:

Hold'em (Real Money):

100 hands played and saw flop:
- 8 times out of 18 while in small blind (44%)
- 10 times out of 18 while in big blind (56%)
- 18 times out of 64 in other positions (28%)
- a total of 36 times out of 100 (36%)

Pots won at showdown - 2 out of 10 (20%)
Pots won without showdown - 21

Thanks in advance !

First thing I would say is look at ranges. Your VPiP at 36% is higher than I would recommend but from only 100 hands, it's hard to tell how you play.

When recording your stats on your spreadsheet, hours played isn't too important for tournaments, how many tournaments have you played and what buy ins?

Your buy in ranges vary too much for someone starting out. I would stick to the bottom level, do not go any higher. This is mean that you are not risking as much while learning and also you will find they are softer.

Playing on Sky and Coral is a good start, it is a very soft field and shouldn't take much to become profitable, just play tight aggressive should be enough to end the sessions in the positive.

Do you have/use a HUD? This will also help you with reading other players although if you are still learning the basics then I wouldn't worry too much at this stage as all of the information might overwhelm you.

Post hands for reviews and advice here.

If you could post your hand stats for a bigger number of hands it would help with giving advice on what you need to look at, after all those hours, you should have more than 100 hands?

As I have only recently started playing on Pokerstars, have only stats from there. But here is for my 500 hands, but dont believe I have really played that much there.

Hold'em (Real Money):

500 hands played and saw flop:
- 38 times out of 93 while in small blind (41%)
- 41 times out of 94 while in big blind (44%)
- 116 times out of 313 in other positions (37%)
- a total of 195 times out of 500 (39%)

Pots won at showdown - 15 out of 38 (39%)
Pots won without showdown - 116

First of all you need to understand, that poker is a long term game. Even winning players can experience periods of 100.000 hands or more, where they dont win, if they play in tough games, where edges are small. So 100 hands or even 1.000 hands tell absolutely nothing about, what your actual winrate is going to be long term.

However 100 hands is enough of a sample to say, you are seeing to many flop, and you are especially defending your blinds to much. You dont want to always be playing out of position with bad hands, and this is, what happen, when you defend your blinds to much.

Hi,

Thanks in advance !

Jonathan Little has great resources for learning to think about playing poker. He has a Weekly Poker Hand series free on youtube with 5 years worth of hands.

He also has books and if you join his email list, also free, he has free webinars you can watch.
If you have the money to join his site and take the quizzes there, you will get better at thinking about poker.

Do not waste your time thinking you can figure out a profitable strategy on your own.

Hope this helps

Hi there,
Just to start with that I already answered to your question but never got approved by a mod or even got to them for some reason. So, the hands stats are from the low stakes with like 5-10 dollars buy-in and 1-2 dollars buy-in tournaments from Pokerstars only. Here is my stats from my last 500 hands on the same platform:

Hold'em (Real Money):

500 hands played and saw flop:
- 38 times out of 93 while in small blind (41%)
- 41 times out of 94 while in big blind (44%)
- 116 times out of 313 in other positions (37%)
- a total of 195 times out of 500 (39%)

Pots won at showdown - 15 out of 38 (39%)
Pots won without showdown - 116

Havent really played or either Coral or SkyPoker as much due to me winning or simply playing for longer on Pokerstars. Also, due to me playing a lot on mobile, Sky's application crashed soo many times it killed me, did that with 3 of a kind As and high straight within 20 minutes.
No I dont have HUD, cant really play on a PC where it would utilised properly, but which one you would recommend and what study material to make the most of it as well ?

My thinking was that if I dont play enough hands, people wouldn't pay me when I have some, so play some mid/low range hands like 10/9s to see the flop. Couldnt you give me a range that should ALWAYS fold if raised pre-flop ? My current style is , if get anything, sometimes check till the river if really strong and make a big raise to look like am bluffing, with hands that hive some chance of losing, small raises.

QUESTION TOWARDS BOTH and all others reading.

I really enjoyed real life poker, would like to go back soon with a bigger and more stable bankroll next month. The minimum buy-in is 40 pounds with blinds 1/1 british pounds. Or you would suggest me avoiding them completely at this stage ?

1.) 100 Hands is a small sample, impossible to say anything About. I could Play 100 Hands in less than an hour on pokerstars….
2.) even for those 100 Hands, unless you got really strong Hands, you saw way too many Flops in the blinds (18/36!!). this is usally one of the biggest leaks. defending the blinds OOP with a weak Hand.
3.) do you Play 6max? or full ring? like others said, playing 36% of your Hands seems to be too much.
4.) do you have other stats? 3bet, RFI, PFR, …
5.) 2 Hours of 1-3$ tournaments at Pokerstars and you lost 10$?! unless you Play hyper Turbos, playing 3-10 tournaments for only 2 Hours seems a bit 'fast' :D

Well, losing 10 Pounds/hour is kinda bad, but you are just starting, so we all lost some Money at the start
but if you can afford 230 Pounds for 23 Hours of Play, you should invest 50 Pounds for a tracking Software. that should improve your game.
Holdem Manager and Poker Tracker both offer 30 day Trials, go for it ;)
