I was in a 1k private freeroll with 80 players. 8 minutes in the game I get KQ in the bb. The button raises 40 I call. I flop top pr with open end strt draw. He bets 97 I reraise 421 and he shoves allin. First place pays $300 and I didnt want to go out early. I put him on pr or set. But I folded. What would you have done?

Not sure why we check-raise & put in ~25% of our stack w/o intentions of getting it in? Why are we check-raising? (what is our 'plan'?)
early levels, fwiw, I prob just c/C flop.

call it off.

Why don't you want to go out early?

I gotta lead on that flop. Protect your pair, and maybe he reraises small and gives you odds to hit your straight. If he reraises big, well, you can shove, or at least get away from the hand more cheaply. But hey, it's a freeroll -- call and let the cards fly!! :)

Knowing that other player I would have to say he was on a draw or had hit a pr or had something like dont think he had better than you , however I would of done the same in the same circumstances. Always can come back up in a tournament to win, however this is only if you still have chips to play with..just my opinion .

We have around 33% even if we're never ahead here. Add in a reasonable number of big draws (QJ, QT, nut flush draws, 98hh) and we should have 40% here easily, maybe 45% and that's not including him showing up with retarded stuff like K9. So folding after check-raising would not be good.

After a few hands I looked at the hand history and realized I check raise him. He bet 97 and I reraise 442 and he shoved allin. Being he only bet 97 from start, I wish I wudda had called. I had notes on that player, I was playing two other tourneys same time and was a bit distracted. Well at least next time if I have top pair with open end straight draw against such player I will definately call. It was the least game in a league freeroll and I wanted to finish deep. So I played scared sorta speak.

Two great responses here. :) My vote is just call. Would love to see at least the turn;)

So we're going to donk into the raiser... & then if they re-raise big we can shove?.. or we can just fold? Why? This is confusing to me.

Blinds are still low, you could/should of just flatted his bet.

I don't like the fold, after you raised either, that's just spewing. You have to be calling his shove after putting yourself in that bad position of raising.

Check raising to fold, I really have no idea what your plan was here. You put in a huge amount of your stack and clarly the villian was never getting away from his hand regardless of what came but you put yourself in a difficult position now.

Anyway, I'm never folding as played. I just shove now and hope he isn't holding Aces and that one of my many outs hits, you have you have TP/GK open ended straight draw, back door flush draw..all good and profitable to be getting your chips in here.

I guess this is my attempt to take control of the hand. I don't mind getting it all in on the flop, but I'm also fine with winning a small pot oop with the donk bet. If we call along and miss the straight, a river bet is gonna be a tough call, no?

I don't C/R that Flop and then Fold...Either Check Call, or Bet/Call a Raise...Yet C/R Fold, I would not have done that

I agree with a pre flop 3 bet here. Ya gotta call here though on the flop even if he has something like KJ you still check raised him so you gotta follow through when you commit so much of your stack. I will say this though I also dont like going in that early in such a small tournament so I can feel your pain. Go with your gut and stick it iin here

flat pre imo, 3betting KQo in the early stages even vs a button open seems not only pointless given the number of chips you stand to win but gl playing KQo OOP when they flat a ton because you are both deep and people like flops
