Hero is dealt 88 in BB.
Everyone folds except SB.
I check. Should I have raised against SB?

Flop = Q59
SB checks.
Hero bets. SB folds.

I would raise it, a small raise and he probably fold pre flop.

Raise preflop. 3 or 4BB is enough.

SB is probably going to raise with any Pocket pair or Decent Q, K or A.

Blind vs Blind you wanna raise your pocket pairs, you've got the best hand %99 of the time preflop.

Betting out on this board after he checks is totally fine as well, as he would probably be out if he has a queen here to take down what's in the pot already without wanting you to get a free card.

Thanks. So the point is when it's head's up, 88 is a solid hand against a forced ante player, so I might as well value bet. Since SB only called, he didn't have anything obviously great, so I should have raised pre-flop as a value bet. And then C-bet.

If he bet out on the Q59 board, I guess I'd fold?

Remember HU, both players miss flop most of the time, so value bet is usually called for. Aggressive play is generally the ticket HU.

Of course. Blind vs Blind 88 is super strong. YES, you WILL run into better hands that trap you.

You raise your BB Preflop, and then you should C-bet pretty much %90 of the flops you'll see. Aggression is what will win you this pot. You don't want them to get any free cards.

If you get check raised, then proceed with caution if you choose to do so.

In case if you are sure about to see the flop don't let to others to see the flop for free. In this situation you should raise around 3 BB .

yeah, of cause raise with a pair, because with his small limp he might get a really great flop, so, you must make him fold or pay for your good pair
