Ok this just happened. Player goes all in, i call with my pocket 6s. He as AK not suited. Flop is J 9 5, river J turn 2. Why did he win the main pot with a pair of Js and i got the left over?? He went all in with 795 chips. I had i think 1200 chips. I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I have no idea. Thank you.

think you read the board wrong?
unless he hit a flush, the board might have had 2 pair higher than 6s?
do you have the hand saved?

Like guy said above me. Maybe you read board wrong. Or maybe he hit a 4 card flush. Not sure.

You should win it, unless he hit flush, like others players told.

There was a pair of jacks on the board. No flush, the chat window said he won with a pair of jacks. It's happened before. I won some chips but he won main pot. Yes there was 2 pairs but what does that mean? I had the pair he didnt have a pair but because his cards were higher he got main pot? I'm confused. the turn might of been a 9 or 5 instead of a 2 but i know for certain 2 jacks and he had AK and no flush. So would he have won because there was a pair of jacks on the board and lets said a pair if 9s and he gets it even thought i had pockets to start?

Sounds like thats probably what happened. Board had two pairs on it. 9s and Js and then he has an Ace kicker for the win.

This ^^ If there are two pair on the board, and both of those pair are higher than the pair you have in the hole, then your pair will not play. If your opponent has a card higher than the value of your hole card(s), it plays as a kicker and you lose the pot.

It is commonly referred to as being 'counterfeited'

I'm guessing flush like the rest. Not really sure what else it could be.

if there are two pairs and if thats higher than your pocket pair, then ur pocket pair doesnt count. The hand is decided on high cards.

i think you won some side pot, and he won his chips that he had before the hand happened, at some sites when you shove your stack against some short stack the rest of your chips are going in the pot and only after the hand is over you get them back....

That kinda sucks. So AK is still a stronger hand

Must have been another 9 on river with BOTH OF YOU HAVING a JJ99 and his Ace tops your 6 kicker giving him the win.

Yes because it is a five card game, the best five cards win,
If there was two pair on the board bigger than your 6s then his ace would have acted as the fifth card.

And essentially preflop your 6s are a small favorite, but what we like to call A coinflip.
I think if im not mistaking it is something around 53/47 or something like that.

You should be able to take a look at the hand history. Just like everyone else said, he had to flush out on you to win the hand. Pretty interesting though
