When I first started taking poker serious and looking to do it more than just a hobby, I would study and watch videos that opened up my eyes to the game that I haven't seen before. Then I started taking what I was learning to the casinos and tournaments and everything I learned helped me make money and win tournies. After 4 months of continuous play and reading and watching videos it seems as if I am getting worse and worse. The more I learn the worse I do... wth is going on? I thought the more you learned the better you play but it seems like I'm making more mistakes and losing more games. Ie. When I played the first CC tournament I came in first place and now I play a league game and do 13th out of 15th... What am I doing wrong? I need some advice.

Hey Bud. One tip of advice that i can give you, with the info you provided, (you didnt give much info such as example hands, that would better give us an idea of what is going on) Is that everybody goes through down swings. I have been playing poker as a main source of income since age 16 (mostly live cash games) And I my self have gone through some of the most bazaar swings imaginable. So for someone who is wanting to play poker more than just as a hobby with his buddies on tuesday, It is key for them to understand swings are a major part of full time poker. You just have to stay mentally strong and be able to over come these swings.

Now with that all being said, If you were to give a few examples of your play, I may be able to and would love to help! Also I am in the process of creating a new tutorial page on Youtube that is aimed for players like your self. SO stay tuned for that also. If you need any more advice feel free to comment here, Or you are more than welcome to instant message me any time! I usually always have CC open in the background so i should be able to respond in a matter of minutes. Hope you find this helpful and more importantly comforting as it can be a very stressful game.

maybe there are other problems in your life? and you are not as clear minded as you were before? sometimes life problems acts on our play. you need to focus on tourney when you play. dont think about other things.

I don't give hand examples because it's just people try to bluff me when I have the nuts on the flop and end up winning with runner runners...or even sometimes i'll just make mistakes I know I shouldn't have... it might have to do with what Spieler says as well... I shouldn't play when I have problems in my life which is the reason I probably lost so much at a live cash game. You're right i'm probably going through a down swing because I just keep getting coolered or running bad. I need to clear my head and try to keep at it.

Also i've been trying to be more agressive with my style but it kind of back fires on me... I use to play tight passive and that was working GREAT for me but now I'm playing semi-loose/tight/agressive and it hasn't been going my way... maybe i need to go back to tight passive style.

League is a little bit different than the usual CC tournaments so you might be better to compare regular CC games to regular CC games.
It may take a few games to adjust to league. I am still adjusting after two seasons.

Agree with fubar. League is tough. Very tough.

You will adjust. Playing the same players regularly will allow you to get a better handle on how they play so that you can avoid difficult situations.

Generally in league games if you play very tight to start (unless you are getting AA,KK every hand) you should make the FT. Once there, anything is possible. Plus you will have seen a lot of your opponents play and will be better able to cope.

I was just using the cc league as an example... it happens in live cash games too and other tournaments i've joined in parx casino... i would usually end up winning $200+ in 1/2 nlhe live cash games.. and in the money in tournaments when I first started taking poker serious but after two months... I lost $400+ in 1/2 nlhe live cash game and can't make it to the second break in tournaments...

New information is always good to consume and learn from. But it is also very hard to implement effectively without some adjustment period where you are sure to see negative effects. It's like a golf swing, you can learn a better way to do it, or ways to improve, but it's always hard to actually implement, and undoubtedly it will get worse before it gets better. Have to take a long term vision with these things

can we stop misinforming people that a free league (where a significant portion of the player don't play real money games) is very tough?

the levels of difficulty are relative per player..

What might be easy for you, could be hard for other people

Don't assume a standard that's based on your own personal standard view.

OP has played real money games, which are objectively more difficult

4 months is not enough, it takes years to improve your game.
