I have a problem with "Tilt". I play and have these players that will play 23o and hit it every time. He gets two pair to my pair of KK's or whatever. I have players that will play every hand for 15 hands in a row with "bad cards" and they win every hand. It makes me frustrated when i am playing KK AA KQo and the like and they beat me every time. Instead of just waiting till that player loses i go on tilt and just say the hell with it and i give up. I need to stop this if i want to be a winning player i know it is just part of the game and you will have people that do this in all stakes and tournaments but it is sooooo frustrating to have this happen. I need more self control and I believe i can win. I have one several $5000 and one $15000 tourneys when i have been able to keep my emotions under control and my mind on the game and what other players are doing and not go on tilt so i know I have the potential to be a great online poker player. I need to get this under control and stop my tilt.because once I start down the tilt road it is over for me. If anyone else has had this problem and overcame it i would like to hear how you did it. I have read both books by jared tindler and found them unhelpful. thanks for reading

Yep you need to control your frustration and realize they don't hit every hand and your winning from them long term.Sure they have hot streaks sometimes and they are welcome to the odd bit of luck. It's what keeps them coming back to the tables.

I would re-read The Mental Game of Poker and really put in the work to make it effective. Do the exercises, actually write your answers down. If that doesn't help you at all, I can't imagine anything that somebody would say on a message board that would do any better.

oh my oh my.....tilt is indeed a horrible monster. I find it hits me when I am tired, which is a lot because of health problems, so I stop playing till I feel better. Of course you can't do that in a tourney but it's better to miss out on a few hands than get bumped off. Hope you come right!!!!

I understand your frustration and I already thought that way, but if you want to get well in poker you'll inevitably have to accept the randomness that the game is.

AA, KK and... (whatever) will lose to mediocre hands held by mediocre players who make mediocre moves 'cause it's poker. Don't try to fight against the randomness of the deck, try to improve your psychological and the technical part of your game. If you're tired of getting eliminated from MTTs, give cash games a chance where bad beats will not affect you as much as MTTs.

I am there with you. Im working on it very hard. I had this very same thing happen last night and he busted me out, I had 60k chips. I was just so stunned, I laughed. I looked his sharkscope up, and he was down 17k. If we tilt, we only hurt ourself. Number one reason, a player is a losing playing is tilt.:) good luck

If you have a good range and strategy game, will see that this is normal, that 3 AA you get one you lose, so you have to study hard range and strategy game that does not get involved in complicated situations and be prepared to fold an AA when you are losing, because you will know and have to be prepared to recognize it, only then will decrease his bads.

I tell you the secret that always help me to win and forget about tilt.
Maybe it will sounds strange, maybe not, but you need to play like you play it on play money or with your friends. Just imagine that you're not playing real money poker and you play only for competition and main your target is not to earn more money from this game but play better and beat your opponents. Of course if you can't enjoy this game just by playing it then maybe this game is not for you or you need to change your way of thinking. The biggest secret is to play with pleasure, if you don't have fun just by playing you can't play good. And your mindset is also on bad way. When you have a good thoughts your game is more profitable and more calm, and of course your luck is bigger.

Yes I agree. Read The Mental Game of Poker. Saying "What the hell, I'm all in" is definitely NOT the way to get off tilt, its the ultimate manifestation of tilt.

Honestly it took me a long time to take control over my tilt. The secret is that once you're in that emotional rollercoaster you can't keep playing. So the solution is simply to stop playing for a while. How long is different from person to person but when you're not thinking about the hand(s) that lost you the game anymore, then are you ready to go back and play.
I personally take a break if I got busted and do something that I enjoy. If I'm in a tourney then it's a bit difficult to stop playing so I'll just autofold, close my eyes and try to get into a meditative state. Usually 10 deep breaths and a quick exercise like push ups will clear my mind enough to keep playing.

The main thing is to stop playing as soon as you find yourself in tilt-land

Yoga, walks, runs, meditation is all helpful activities to increase your self awareness. Try that. Also thinking lf your poker career as one long session (not just the session you are currently in) will help you understand that you will loose some hands and games, but in the long run you will come out a winner as long as you are a winning poker player.

Also, if you are loosing quality hands vs trash then that's a good thing. Obviously you played right but because of variance you are going to loose some times. That's just how the game is. Yesterday I busted out with AA vs KK. He won with a flush. It sucked and I could feel the tilt happening so I calmly took a step back and ate some food, watched an episode of a random tv show and then went back to win the next SNG.

I hope this helps

I use to tilt quite frequently and still do at times. I have a stop loss that I stick to which helps not only with tilting but also with downswings. Good luck
